Location: Offsite - School site(s) would be up to 30 miles from our Main office in Virginia

Pay Band/Wage: $20.00 - $29.00 (Pay Band 3) BOE

Status: Full-time, Part-time, Casual

Range Mental Health Center is proud to be a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The goals of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics program in MN are to 1) increase access to community-based mental health and substance use disorder services (particularly to under-served communities), 2) advance integration of behavioral health with physical health care, and 3) improve utilization of evidence-based practices on a more consistent basis.

Position Summary:

The School Based Mental Health Practitioner and Targeted Case Management provides skills training, case management, crisis assistance, treatment plan development and review, and administering and reporting standardized measures. The practitioner works closely with school staff and families to collaborate on progress towards student treatment goals. These positions are based in schools and communities with flexible scheduling and occasional travel.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual, group, and family skills training at assigned school site(s)
  • Instruct, assist, enable people served to develop and enhance stability, competencies, personal/emotional adjustments and independent living and community skills
  • Provide direct client case management support
  • Complete prior authorizations as needed for services; ensure insurance is active and assigned clients are eligible for services monthly.
  • Assist with scheduling and compliance with regards to appointments
  • Coordinate School Based Mental Health Services at assigned school site(s)
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with partnering agencies
  • Provide school/community personnel with essential program information
  • Respond to and provide crisis assistance and intervention as needed
  • Provide consultation and educational services to school/community authorized persons
  • Complete all clinical documentation and other medically necessary information in the RMHC electronic health record for the people we serve both as required by agency policy and DHS standards in a timely manner.
  • Develop and update individual treatment plans as required
  • Complete functional assessments and crisis prevention plans as required
  • Complete required standardized measurement tools for children and adolescents
  • Provide medically necessary mental health treatment to children and adolescents and their family, as directed by RMHC Code of Conduct and Minnesota Professional Board standards and ethics
  • Attend Multidisciplinary, Special Education, school, and other meetings as directed
  • Coordinate care and referrals with other service agencies and families and refer services as needed for the people we serve
  • Provide program transportation as necessary
  • Attend training as required by RMHC and the Department of Human Services to meet both minimum training requirements and mandated trainings
  • Provide notification to direct supervisor of work schedule; be able and willing to work the assigned full-time equivalency ratio and to meet the needs of the school district(s) assigned
  • Ability to identify, understand, respond to needs of clients and advocate for the people we serve.
  • Communicate with Clinical Supervisor regarding issues / updates for the people we serve as required by Department of Human Services and RMHC
  • Follow all pertinent regulatory and statutory standards and guidelines with Department of Labor and all RMHC policies and procedures
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to be trained in cultural competencies and to provide culturally appropriate treatment services to youth and their families
  • Ability to provide services to the people we serve at or above the agency’s expected level of productivity
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships with partnering agencies
  • Flexibility to meet demands in a fluid and changing environment
  • Ability to observe and assess people and to respond and manage a crisis
  • Strong organizational, time management, and crisis management skills
  • Knowledge of local community resources and state mental health resources and systems.
  • Ability to be flexible, to work as a team member, and to interact effectively with the people we support, staff and other professionals
  • Group and individual skills sufficient to provide CTSS services
  • Understanding and knowledge of records and billing compliance
  • Computer skills are sufficient to utilize email and accurately document services into an electronic medical record
  • Non-judgmental attitude towards others and a centered focus towards the people we serve
  • Understanding of local and state mental health system
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, the people we serve and other parties
  • Philosophical approach consistent with Range Mental Health Center’s mission

Education and Experience:

  • Qualify as a Mental Health Practitioner as defined by the Minnesota Dept of Human Services. (4-year human service degree plus 2000 hours supervised mental health experience, or a Master’s degree in Human Services, or 4,000 hours supervised mental health experience).
  • A mental health practitioner for a child must have training working with children.
  • A mental health practitioner for an adult member must have training working with adults.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard
  • Ability to deal with significant daily stress
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain
  • Ability to utilize physical restraint policy as needed
  • Sufficient vision to utilize a computer monitor
  • Sufficient hearing acuity to accurately record or respond to another party both in person, on the phone, and in a group setting
  • Able to articulate the English language in a manner that is sufficiently clear as to be easily understood.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness and physical appearance
