Primary Function:     

 

The Junior/Senior High School Assistant Principal/Activities Director provides support to the instructional process by directing assigned programs and services for the Jr./Sr. High School. This role includes supervising and supporting staff, coordinating school activities, and addressing issues, situations, and challenges that arise on campus or with enrolled students. The position integrates responsibilities typical of an assistant principal in a smaller school district, with an emphasis on student discipline, program development, and extracurricular activities.

 

Relationship to Student Achievement: 

 

The Assistant Principal/Activities Director plays a critical role in promoting student achievement through both academic and extracurricular avenues in a small Junior/Senior High School program. This dual role emphasizes creating an environment where students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally to transition successfully to post-secondary education or the workforce.

 

Directly Responsible to: 

 

High School Principal

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education.
  • Successful teaching experience, preferably in a secondary school setting.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities, particularly in coordinating transportation, scheduling events, and managing multiple programs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, parents, and community members to foster a positive school culture and build relationships.
  • Proven success in working with parents to support student growth and engagement in academic and extracurricular programs.
  • Familiarity with basic elements of instruction, curriculum, and assessment aligned with state and district standards.
  • Understanding of effective employee supervision and evaluation procedures and techniques.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum concepts, materials, and teaching strategies that support student achievement.
  • Proficiency in effective student disciplinary and behavior management practices, with an emphasis on restorative approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive and inclusive environment for students, staff, and families.
  • Experience in a smaller school setting, with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in a tight-knit community.
  • Proficiency in using technology and data to support decision-making, communication, and program evaluation.
  • Commitment to creating opportunities for student success both inside and outside the classroom, emphasizing post-secondary readiness and life skills.
  • Experience in developing and managing successful extracurricular programs that emphasize skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

 

 

Job Goals:

The Assistant Junior/Senior High School Principal will provide top-tier leadership and align all school resources with school improvement priorities to ensure students are well prepared to transition to a post secondary education or work setting.  The Activities Director will provide extracurricular activities to fosters skill development, understanding of sports, and appreciation for a variety of activities and programs, teaming and sportsmanship for students and adults to

 

Performance responsibilities

Instructional Leadership:

 

  1. Develop, implement, and evaluate school improvement plans in collaboration with staff, students, and stakeholders.
  2. Supervise and support the development of instructional programs to ensure alignment with state standards and district goals.
  3. Promote professional growth for staff through mentorship, evaluations, and access to development opportunities.
  4. Analyze student performance data to guide curriculum and instructional improvements.

 

Student Achievement and Discipline:

 

  1. Ensure high academic standards and equitable access to educational opportunities for all students.
  2. Oversee student discipline, implementing restorative practices and other strategies to create a positive school climate.
  3. Collaborate with the Principal to identify and support at-risk students, ensuring appropriate interventions.

 

Operational Management:

 

  1. Oversee the development and implementation of the school’s master schedule.
  2. Manage the school’s budget and resources responsibly, aligning expenditures with instructional priorities.
  3. Ensure compliance with district policies, state laws, and federal regulations, including those related to safety and emergency preparedness.

 

 

Extracurricular Leadership:

 

  1. Plan, implement, and evaluate interscholastic activities and programs for the school.
  2. Promote extracurricular activities that foster skill development, understanding of sports, and appreciation for a variety of programs.
  3. Coordinate and supervise coaches, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure effective program delivery.
  4. Ensure compliance with CHSAA and district regulations regarding student eligibility and participation.
  5. Plan, supervise, and attend recognition programs for student achievements.
  6. Develop and maintain an updated inventory of all activities equipment and uniforms, ensuring proper storage and replacement as needed.
  7. Schedule the use of all athletic facilities and fields for practices and events, ensuring safety and readiness.
  8. Arrange for game officials, transportation, and employee coverage for all events.
  9. Act as a liaison between coaches and the athletic booster club to promote and support school activities.
  10. Represent the school and district at regional meetings and events.

 

Community Engagement:

 

  1. Build strong relationships with families, community members, and local organizations to support school programs and initiatives.
  2. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on school performance and activities.
  3. Represent the school at district and community meetings, fostering a positive image of the institution.

 

Safety and Compliance:

 

  1. Ensure the implementation of safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  2. Collaborate with district officials to maintain facilities, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
  3. Communicate and document medical and emergency procedures for activities and events.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  1. Serve as a mentor to staff and students, modeling professionalism and ethical leadership.
  2. Act as a liaison between the school and the district, ensuring alignment with broader educational goals.
  3. Assist in recruiting, hiring, and retaining high-quality staff members.
  4. Support the district’s efforts in reducing chronic absenteeism and improving overall attendance.
  5. Promote and model good sportsmanship and maintain an active program that welcomes competing teams, guests, and game officials.
  6. Supervise and evaluate all coaches and activities staff on an annual basis.

 

Terms of Employment/Pay:

 

  • 200 days (excluding holidays and vacation time)
  • Salary as per district pay scale, commensurate with experience and qualifications

 

Evaluations:

 

Performance of this job will be based on the board’s policy on evaluation.
