Ranger Construction Company is a commercial general contractor specializing in upfits, renovations, and maintenance of office, industrial, and medical properties in Charlotte and surrounding areas. Ranger One-Call is the Commercial property maintenance and service division that provides HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and general repairs to tenants and property owners. Summary
We are seeking a skilled Construction Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of all accounting functions, including daily processes, financial reports, proper controls and month end close procedures. In addition, knowledge of the construction industry or a related project-based industry is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cash management, including daily bank reconciliation
- Review and validate vendor and subcontractor invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with subcontracts.
- Monitor project expenditures against budgets and provide timely reports on budget variances.
- Prepare weekly check runs in accordance with project cash flows
- Monitor retention amounts and ensure proper release upon project completion
- Review service billings for proper application of sales tax
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all sales & use tax returns
- Month end close responsibilities including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Provide overall project support to Project Managers, Project Superintendents, customers, and subcontractors before, during, and after projects
- Coordinate, organize, and manage communications and documentation relating to our projects
- Set up and manage project files in construction software program (Spectrum) and on company-wide server
- Generate proposals, project contracts, subcontracts, and change orders
- Generate project pay applications, invoices, and related documentation, and assist with AR collections
- Collect and prepare project close out documentation
- Assist with office administrative roles as needed, including but not limited to, answering phones, accepting deliveries, processing mail, filing, and setting up meetings
- Cross-train with other Project Coordinators and office staff
Desired Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role
- Experience in Construction is highly valuable
- Experience with Viewpoint Spectrum or similar accounting software
- Strong understanding of construction cost estimating, budgeting, and financial analysis
- Familiarity with construction contracts, procurement practices, and project management
- Strong proficiency in Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy in financial analysis.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, open office environment
- Capable of interrelating with personnel at all levels of construction activity
- Must follow company and client policies and procedures
Work Environment This position works in an active, open office environment that is designed to foster communication and collaboration. Noise level is moderate. Private conference space available.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This is an on-site position.
