About Us: Ranger Environmental is an industrial and environmental cleaning company looking for motivated individuals to work in a fast-paced environment. These individuals should be well-experienced in identifying, locating, and marking underground utilities before excavation or construction projects. The role typically requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to prevent damage to essential infrastructure such as gas, electric, water, and communication lines.

Job Description:

We are looking for an energetic & dependable Utility Locator to join our team in the Selma area. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately identifying, locating, and marking the position of underground utilities to ensure safety and prevent damage during excavation or construction projects. This role requires the use of your personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) to travel to various work sites, close collaboration with contract Supervisors, construction team, and public works officials. Pay will be based upon number of locations marked per day (equivalent to $20-$30/hr.). Work schedule is 50 hours per week (7am to 5pm), which may include a Saturday or Sunday.

Responsibilities:

  • Use specialized equipment to locate and mark underground utilities such as gas, electric, water, and communication lines.
  • Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and utility maps to identify the position of utility lines.
  • Communicate with contractors and site supervisors to understand excavation and construction plans.
  • Accurately record and report on utility locations using required forms and software.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to ensure no damage is caused to existing infrastructure.
  • Respond to emergency calls to locate and mark utilities for urgent excavation projects.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure all utility locates are accurate and up to date.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in utility locating, construction, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of various underground utility systems (gas, electric, water, telecommunications, etc.).
  • Familiarity with equipment such as electromagnetic and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) locators.
  • Ability to read maps, blueprints, and diagrams.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Ability to stand/walk on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy equipment.
  • Proficient with computer software for reporting and data collection.

Benefits:

  • Eligible for medical, dental and vision after 90 days.

Work Location: Selma

* This assignment is expected to last around 6 months. After its completion, the employee will transition to a new assignment, with hourly pay to be determined at the start of the new assignment.
