What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Therapist position at Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital?
Assesses, monitors, and treats patients for physical impairments, cognitive impairments, functional limitations and developmental delays. Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure: Yes
Schedule: At least one Saturday 8:30am-3pm per 6 weeks with some weekday coverage for vacations.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Performs comprehensive evaluation of patients' physical and developmental needs; plans and implements appropriate therapy, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Provides treatment that involves therapeutic use of exercise, neurodevelopmental and sensory integration techniques, positioning and alignment, environmental adaptations and home accessibility evaluations to facilitate function and increase strength and coordination.
- Makes recommendations for patient equipment and assists in ordering; assists in ordering and maintenance of departmental equipment, toys and supplies; assists in maintenance of agency equipment and supplies.
- Assists with patient caregiving to ensure patient cleanliness, comfort and safety; protects patients and employees by adherence to infection control policies.
- Assists in maintaining an environment that meets the physical, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the patients, including participation in child development activities.
Training
- Provides hands on training to caregivers and student interns.
Documentation/Communication
- Monitors patients’ progress and consults with Therapy Management regarding patient care, goals, interdepartmental and intradepartmental treatment facilitation.
- Provides oral and written communication of patient status, progress, and recommendations to other departments and within department to ensure continuity of patient care; provides communication to patient’s physician as needed.
- Provides timely documentation consisting of patient evaluations, contact notes, progress notes, goals and discharge summaries, and records all care provided.
- Participates in patient care conferences, in-service education and professional education sessions.
Other Responsibilities
- All other duties as assigned by the Therapy Management Team.
Qualifications
- The Physical Therapist must be currently licensed in the State of Missouri as a Professional Physical Therapist
- hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR card from the American Heart Association
- Previous experience in a pediatric setting preferred.
Physical Demands
These include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, standing, carrying, and lifting of light loads (up to 35 lb.), as necessary for patient care.
