The Assistant Head of the Middle School at Ransom Everglades School is a full-time, twelve-month administrative position reporting to the Head of the Middle School. The Assistant Head of the Middle School supports the Head of the Middle School in the administration and day-to-day operations of the division. This role involves working closely with teachers, students, and other administrative personnel to ensure the effectiveness of the Middle School and its alignment with the school's mission. - Assist the Head of the Middle School in initiating, implementing, and overseeing daily programs and activities. Assume the duties of the Head of the Middle School in their absence.
- Articulate the division’s programs, expectations, and behavioral guidelines to ensure all constituencies are properly informed.
- Partner with the Head of the Middle School, Class Deans, and other school administrators to resolve student, faculty, and parent issues and concerns.
- Collaborate with the Head of the Middle School and other school leaders to develop and manage social policies, behavioral expectations, strategic leadership, protocols, and practices supporting student development, learning, health, and safety.
- Work collaboratively with the Testing Coordinator to facilitate the assignment of Proctors and spaces for the end of scheduled, make-up, and standardized testing events throughout the semester and study halls.
- Contribute to the orientation and onboarding programs for new faculty members.
- Implement orientation and onboarding programs for new students working with the Admission Office, Department Chairs, and Class Deans, including re-visit days and placement testing.
- Collaborate with field trip faculty sponsors to ensure all paperwork is accurate and accounted for and that proper planning policies and procedures have been followed (including reviews by the health center and business office); meet with students/sponsors before a trip to review expectations.
- Coordinate campus calendaring by fielding requests, vetting them with leadership, and collaborating with the calendar manager to ensure accuracy; resolve conflicts and communicate daily schedule changes.
- Conduct faculty observations to assist in monitoring and supporting the academic, extracurricular, and social standing of students.
- Support campus event managers with planning and logistics.
- Serve as the chair of the campus discipline committee.
- Contribute to general supervision, coordination, and troubleshooting of the campus, including but not limited to drop-off and pick-up, midday break, and afternoon and evening activities.
- Serve as an administrative presence at school events (i.e., competitions, performances, student activities, etc.) as assigned by the Head of the Middle School.
- Assist the Department Chairs and Coordinators in reviewing and evaluating curriculum to ensure instructional practices are up-to-date, student-centered, rigorous, and purposeful.
- Assist faculty members in selecting professional development opportunities and offer in-house professional development and coaching to ensure the middle school stays at the forefront of educational progress within the curriculum, instructional methods, and educational technology.
- Determine faculty and student class placements and teaching schedules.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is required. An advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) is preferred.
- Teaching experience with middle school students.
- Administrative experience in a school leadership role.
