What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School Assistant Dean of Students position at Ransom Everglades School?
The Upper School Assistant Dean of Students at Ransom Everglades School is a ten-month full-time position that works under the office of the Dean of Students and reports directly to the Head of the Upper School. In addition to supporting the Dean of Students, this position is responsible for teaching two classes in the field of expertise and promoting lifelong learning while engaging and supporting a diverse student body in a values-based community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach two classes throughout the school year related to the subject matter in the area of expertise.
- Deliver engaging and effective lessons to students at assigned grade levels, using various instructional strategies to cater to different learning styles.
- Create and administer assessments to measure student learning and progress. This includes quizzes, tests, projects, and cumulative exams.
- Provide thoughtful, individualized feedback and support to students who need extra help with concepts.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and disciplined learning environment that fosters student engagement and respect for the subject matter.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in education and pedagogy.
- Communicate effectively with parents using parent-teacher conferences and progress reports concerning their child's progress.
- Be an active member of the Administrative Upper School Team.
- Help implement and enforce rules and expectations relating to student conduct as outlined in the student handbook.
- Help facilitate open communication and interaction between students, parents, and school.
- Help ensure that an atmosphere of support and community exists on campus.
- Assist in the review and revision of policies and procedures.
- Help coordinate and enforce parking on campus for students.
- Act as a contact person for the on-campus security personnel during the school day.
- Assist in educating all community members on the emergency procedures for an evacuation, a lockdown, and an assembly. Help plan and implement all such drills.
- Be one of the liaisons between 8th-grade administration on rising 9th-grade concerns.
- Help chaperone major school events (i.e., Homecoming Dance, Prom, etc.)
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree.
- Proficiency in Microsoft and Google platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree.
- Experience in a Deans office.
- Experience teaching at the high school level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Self-starter, ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong prioritizing and organizational ability.
- Experience employing a range of pedagogical approaches (e.g., direct instruction, project-based learning, cooperative group work)
- Ability to teach various subject matter levels with confidence and enthusiasm.
