Rapid City Medical Center has a full-time Financial Counselor position available in our Business Office. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service while assisting patients with understanding their insurance benefits and financial obligations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Excellent communication skills with providers, coworkers and patients. Able to communicate with confidence the financial obligations for future services.
- Understand insurance processing rules, outcomes, benefits.
- Decipher, review, and relay this account auditing details.
- Review patients’ insurance status to determine if special documentation is needed to notify of expected balances.
- Utilize and interpret electronic and verbal communication, to obtain and verify a description of patient’s insurance benefits.
- Use our fee schedules and the description of benefits, to calculate patient estimates.
- Work with patients on understanding their benefit structure, the amount that is estimated to be due, and develop an acceptable payment arrangement with the patient.
- Complete account audits to reconcile patient accounts.
- Work with clinical staff and Patient Services Manager when acceptable arrangements cannot be made, to ensure the provider has the opportunity to override our protocols when medically necessary.
- Work as backup to the Patient Financial Services team as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High school degree or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years of experience working in a clinic or insurance environment, business office experience preferred.
