Job Summary:
The Program Manager leads the development, production, and delivery of precision-machined prototype parts and assemblies. Collaborating with engineering teams, customers, and vendors, the Program Manager ensures projects are executed efficiently and meet stringent quality, timeline, and budgetary requirements. This role demands a strong background in CNC machining, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
Organizational Relationships:
The Program Manager reports directly to the Process Engineer and works closely with the Shop Supervisor, machinists, and cross-functional teams.
Process and Engineering Development:
- Validate and optimize operational processes to support job start dates.
- Ensure job prints, models, specifications, and requirements are well-defined and documented for communication with the Shop Supervisor and machinists.
- Create standard work instructions for business and operational processes for repeat parts.
- Conduct job postmortem analysis, record findings and actual standards in the ERP system, and communicate with the estimator.
- Provide support for custom fixture design, including generating auxiliary models and parts using CAD software.
- Design and procure specialized tooling, ensuring delivery prior to the start date of operation.
- Metric - Delayed Starts
Program Management:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of precision machining orders.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to meet customer requirements.
- Monitor and control project progress to ensure timely delivery and address any issues that arise.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers, providing updates on program status, challenges, and successes.
- Coordinate with engineering, vendors, and suppliers to ensure all requirements are met.
Continuous Improvement:
- Analyze project outcomes to identify areas for improvement in both processes and team performance.
- Develop and implement strategies for improving productivity, reducing lead times, and ensuring cost-effective solutions.
- Encourage innovation and the use of new machining techniques, technologies, and materials to improve prototype quality and efficiency.
Operate within Company Parameters:
- Ensure that operational activities and management are conducted in a manner consistent with company culture and core values.
- Ensure activities align with organizational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies, and general duty of care.
- Execute all responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards established by company policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of CNC manufacturing experience with expertise in machining.
- Strong proficiency in tolerancing, gaging, materials, tooling, and CAD/CAM software.
- Proven experience with quality management principles (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.
