Concrete Quality Control Technician

As a Quality Control Technician, you will be responsible for conducting quality control tests, analyzing data, and ensuring that our concrete products meet all industry standards and specifications. You will collaborate with various departments, including operations, production, and sales, to troubleshoot and resolve quality issues and ensure customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of raw materials, in-process, and finished concrete products using industry-standard methods.
  • Perform tests on ready-mix concrete, including slump, air content, unit weight, and strength testing.
  • Sample and test raw materials such as aggregates, cement, and admixtures for compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor concrete batch processes to ensure consistency and adherence to mix designs.
  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on data release.
  • Document and analyze test results, identifying and addressing inconsistencies or deviations.
  • Perform visual inspections of finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Work closely with plant operators, drivers, and contractors to resolve quality concerns and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in the development and modification of concrete mix designs to meet project specifications.
  • Maintain calibration and proper operation of testing equipment.
  • Conduct job site inspections to evaluate concrete performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with ASTM, ACI, DOT, and company-specific quality standards.
  • Support the implementation of quality control and safety policies and procedures.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and regulations in the concrete industry to recommend improvements to quality control processes.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, including OSHA safety and quality standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, Concrete Management, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance, preferably in the concrete or construction materials industry.
  • Strong understanding of concrete properties, mix designs, testing procedures, and concrete technology.
  • ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and generate detailed reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), with experience in quality management software a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record.
  • Required PPE includes safety shoes above ankles, safety vests, safety glasses, ear plugs, and hard hats. Additional PPE required for special jobs.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including hot/cold temperatures and rain/snow.
