What are the responsibilities and job description for the SCHOOL AUDITOR position at Rapides Parish School District?
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field with at least 24 hours in Accounting.
2. At least three years of professional accounting or experience, preferably in governmental accounting
3. Advanced knowledge of theory and practices of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles and procedures; of financial record keeping and reporting
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance or his/her designee
SUPERVISES: Assigned Staff
JOB GOAL: To perform a variety of professional level accounting duties involving the accounting recording and reporting of financial transactions; to review accounting records and reports for accuracy; and to assist other departmental staff with accounting related functions
TERM: Twelve Months
SALARY: Accounting Salary Schedule -Level II Degreed
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. To install student activity account software at individual schools and provide instruction as
to proper account structure and operation of accounting system
II. To audit schools’ financial records to ensure compliance with Rapides Parish School
Board policies and procedures and applicable state laws and regulations
III. To report findings of school audits directly to the Superintendent and, if necessary, advise the Finance Committee of any significant noncompliance’s found during the audit
IV. To sign any and all requisitions, school purchase orders, travel reimbursements, invoices
and invoices over purchase order amounts of the Rapides Parish School Board
V. To assist school and central office personnel with questions relating to state purchasing laws and regulations, state contract vendors, and state contract commodities
VI. To perform bank reconciliation’s on all general and restricted accounts of the School Board
VII. To compile monthly bank balances of all school accounts and enter into the system to ensure adequate security is pledged by the individual banks
VIII. To maintain the central office postage machine
IX. To perform other duties as assigned
X. To establish and execute a professional growth and self evaluation plan
XI. To learn Rapides Parish School Board policies, procedures and regulations
XII. To apply accounting principles to governmental accounting
XIII. To apply pertinent federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations
XIV. To prepare a variety of financial statements, documents and reports
XV. To examine and verify routine financial documents and reports
XVI. To communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
XVII. To maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and
responsibilities which may include sitting for extended periods of time; operating assigned
equipment including computers
XVIII. To maintain, effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations; reading and writing; working with numbers; operating assigned equipment; communicating with others
XIX. To maintain mental capacity which permits making sound decisions and using good judgement; demonstrating intellectual capabilities
