Job Summary:


RCPS is seeking passionate and dedicated Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teachers for multiple positions in the areas of Family and Consumer Science (FCS) and Business/Marketing for the upcoming school year. We are looking to build a dynamic CTE team that prepares students for success in college, careers, and life. These positions are part of a larger CTE program aimed at providing students with practical skills and hands-on learning experiences in key career fields. The selected candidates will teach FCS and Business/Marketing courses, with a focus on equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for future workforce success.

  • Family and Consumer Science Teacher 
  • Business/Marketing Teacher 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Leadership:

    • Plan and implement a comprehensive curriculum in Family and Consumer Science (FCS) and/or Business/Marketing based on Virginia CTE standards and objectives.
    • Provide engaging and relevant instruction that blends academic content with real-world applications.
    • Develop and deliver hands-on projects, practical exercises, and industry-relevant learning experiences that prepare students for careers in their chosen fields.
    • Incorporate technology, industry-standard tools, and real-life case studies into lessons to deepen students' understanding and skills.
  • Student Engagement and Support:

    • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student involvement, collaboration, and critical thinking.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and provide additional support to ensure all students succeed.
    • Guide students in exploring various career pathways and postsecondary options in business, marketing, and family and consumer sciences.
    • Assess and monitor student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments, projects, and presentations.
  • CTE Program Development and Management:

    • Collaborate with other CTE instructors to ensure a well-rounded program that aligns with industry standards and meets the needs of the students.
    • Organize and manage classroom resources, supplies, and equipment to enhance the learning environment.
    • Develop industry partnerships and work with local businesses to provide students with internship, job shadowing, and mentorship opportunities.
    • Participate in and encourage students to engage in CTE-related competitions, career fairs, and community outreach activities.
  • Professional Development and Collaboration:

    • Continuously improve teaching practices through professional development, workshops, and collaboration with colleagues.
    • Stay current on changes in industry trends, standards, and innovations in Family and Consumer Science and Business/Marketing education.
    • Attend and participate in CTE-related events, conferences, and meetings to stay connected to the larger educational and business communities.
  • Compliance and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and progress in accordance with school policies.
    • Ensure compliance with Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) regulations, including required assessments, certifications, and industry credentials for CTE students.
    • Collaborate with administration to ensure all CTE program requirements are met and aligned with state and federal guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Family and Consumer Science, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Career and Technical Education (CTE) certification, or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience teaching Family and Consumer Science or Business/Marketing at the high school level is preferred.
  • Knowledge of current industry practices, trends, and standards in both Family and Consumer Science and Business/Marketing.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the classroom and keep up with evolving trends in CTE.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and move around the classroom.
  • Participate in hands-on, interactive lessons that may involve physical activity.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, 10-month position (school year).
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required for student events, competitions, and community outreach.
