Rappahannock Regional Jail Unpaid Externship

Accepting applications, December 26, 2024 through January 17, 2025.

Panel Interviews will be held January 31, 2025; 8am-12pm.

Accepted applicants will be notified via email February 4, 2025.

Externship will be held February 10-14, 2025; 8am-5pm daily.

General Definition of Work:

High School Seniors eighteen years and older from Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George Counties or the City of Fredericksburg will be given an introduction and familiarization with local corrections, Pre-trial, and Probation Services at Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Qualification Requirements:

Must be 18 years old before February 10, 2025.

Must be currently enrolled in High School (Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George counties or the City of Fredericksburg). Home School students who are in the service area will also be accepted.

Must be scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2025.

Must follow the participating school systems CTE’s Policies and Procedures.

Education and Experience:

Must be currently enrolled in high school or home school in one of the member jurisdictions and scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2025.

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
