What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Student, Peer Tutor - Tutoring Center - Raritan Valley Community College position at Raritan Valley Community College?
Raritan Valley Community College is currently seeking part-time tutors to teach a variety of subjects in the Tutoring Center.
The purpose of the Tutoring Center is to guide and support RVCC students as they become independent life-long learners. This accessible educational environment is furnished with a variety of tools that help students confidently develop the skills needed to reach their academic goals. Dedicated certified tutors and trained staff welcome a diverse community of students and provide free, quality service in accordance with faculty guidelines and objectives.
Essential Duties:
- Provide academic support and subject-specific tutoring to students in subjects.
- Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, both in-person and online.
- Clearly explain concepts in a way that students can understand.
- Support students with homework, projects, papers and other academic assignments.
- Provide constructive feedback to students.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
- Accommodate different learning styles.
- Help students locate and utilize relevant academic resources, including the library and online materials.
Job Requirements:
Peer tutors who are interested in tutoring in their subject of expertise, may be considered for hiring. Copies of transcripts and two letters of recommendation will be required after the first interview with the Director of the Tutoring Center.
Must have a B or higher in their subject of expertise.
Peer tutors must make a commitment to tutoring for at least one full semester.
Hours vary depending on tutoring volume.
