About the Position

Ratio is seeking a Research and Development Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, the successful candidate will be a key contributor to the development, architecture, and maintenance of our data infrastructure, ensuring seamless data integration, storage, and analytics capabilities. The candidate will work closely with the data and research teams to design and implement data pipelines and systems that will empower our company's decision-making and research efforts. This role provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals, delivering insights that directly impact our mission.

In addition to core data engineering expertise, the ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and be skilled in leveraging their familiarity with full-stack development (Vue.js and Python) to contribute to the creation of internal tools and web applications that facilitate data access, visualization, and analysis for cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Infrastructure

Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of robust data pipelines and data storage solutions.
Build scalable systems that can handle complex and large-scale datasets, including clinical trial data, patient information, and radiopharmaceutical production data.

Data Integration & ETL Processes

Develop and maintain efficient ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for integrating disparate data sources (e.g., clinical, operational, research, and external data).

Work with APIs, third-party services, and other systems to automate data workflows.

Collaboration

Partner with data scientists, research teams, and other stakeholders to identify key data requirements, ensure proper data provisioning, and optimize the data flow for analytics, AI, and machine learning models.

Full-Stack Development

Apply basic full-stack development skills using Vue.js for front-end web development and Python for back-end logic.

Contribute to the creation of internal dashboards, data visualization tools, and applications that support business and research objectives.

Data Quality & Governance

Implement data validation and data quality checks to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the data.

Promote best practices for data governance, security, and compliance (including HIPAA and GxP regulations where applicable).

Performance Optimization

Analyze and optimize query performance, data storage, and processing tasks to ensure high performance and cost efficiency.

Mentorship & Leadership

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data engineers and contribute to fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment.

Lead technical initiatives and participate in code reviews.

Innovation

Stay current with the latest data engineering trends, tools, and best practices.

Recommend and implement new technologies and approaches that drive business value.

Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field. Relevant certifications are a plus.

5 years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on building scalable data pipelines and systems.

Proven experience in SQL, Python, and other data engineering tools and frameworks.

Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, Redshift, BigQuery).

Experience in healthcare or life sciences data (e.g., clinical, genomic, radiopharmaceutical) is a significant advantage.

Familiarity with full-stack development, particularly with Vue.js for front-end development and Python for back-end logic.

Preferred Skills and Attributes :

Expertise in working with relational and NoSQL databases.

Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and CI / CD practices.

Familiarity with data visualization tools and frameworks is a plus.

Knowledge of data security and compliance standards in healthcare (e.g., HIPAA, GxP).

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Proactive and results-oriented with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.
