What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Coordinator (Transit) position at RATP Dev USA?
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the safety and the promotion of safety consciousness among all RATP Dev and ART employees. daily operation of Fixed Route field operations, ensuring safe operation of such services. This position reports and works closely with the Safety/Training Manager located at the ART: 360 Haywood Street Asheville North Carolina.

Essential Functions
- Establish, sustain, and analyze policies and programs to control accident costs, retaining accurate and complete employee, passenger and vehicle incident/accident records.
- Recommend and develop changes to policies, procedures, and programs that focus on improving the safety and efficiency of Fixed Route field operations.
- Work closely with the RATP Dev employees, contractors, databases, and local management team with regards to filing and managing liability claims for ART vehicles and facilities, and workers' compensation.
- Keep up to date on the latest Federal, State, and local laws and regulations related to safety.
- Maintain FTA, DOT, OSHA, NTD, safety and security-related records and documents necessary for accurate completion of required local, state, and federal reports.
- Performs periodic and random safety inspections and prepares safety reports as necessary.
- Identify unsafe behaviors using technologies (Lytx, Qlik, Safetracker, etc.) followed by coaching and assessments with employees.
- Assist with documenting, tracking, and implementing action plans from various safety committees and training.
- Support the Safety/Training manager throughout the new operator training class (videos, validating drive hours, transporting to DMV, monitoring performance, etc).
- Assist the Safety/Training Manager in the development of safety-related training information to be presented at appropriate meetings and video extractions.
- Enter conformation into company software when applicable i.e. (Fleet response, Safe Tracker, Triage now)
- Notify appropriate departments of worker’s compensation injuries and follow through with worker’s compensation claims.
- Work to ensure consistency of approach and application of safety programs across operations, site safety, and maintenance.
- Investigate all safety related complaints, incidents, accidents, concerns and/or injuries and/or damage to vehicles, employees and/or passengers and determines the root cause and how such issues may be prevented in the future.

- Comprehensive knowledge of RATP Dev USA/ART policies and current labor agreement.
- Ability to problem-solve under stressful conditions and tight timelines.
- Ability to effectively interact with representatives of the Amalgamated Transit Union and resolve labor issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population.
- Ability to effectively manage and resolve employee and customer conflicts.
- Ability to work in a “Team” focused environment and assist other Team Members achieve their objectives.
- Notifies and updates Operations and HR regarding an operator’s return to revenue service status following accidents/incidents.
- Organizes, communicates, facilitates, and actively participates in monthly safety meetings, blitzes, and campaigns while monitoring operator and staff attendance.
- Monitors, documents, and immediately addresses areas of opportunity related to contractual safety requirements and compliance (Operator Safety, Vehicle Safety, Field Safety, Facility Safety, etc.).
- Tracks, notifies, and conducts the appropriate follow-up with all operators to ensure they are aware of upcoming credential expiration dates.
- Facilitates new hire operator classroom training.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one year administrative and/or operational experience with a public transit agency.
- Two (2) years supervision of transit operational staff in a bargaining unit environment.
- Must possess or obtain CDL Class B with passenger endorsement within six months.
- Must complete a safety-related certification program on a quarterly basis – 4 classes per year
- Required to complete any additional training as determined by the Safety and Training Manager
