Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce company safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, OSHA).
Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and ride-a longs to assess adherence to safety protocols.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
Monitor compliance with drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with DOT and company policies.
Training & Development:
Conduct initial and ongoing safety training for operators, supervisors, and other staff.
Develop and implement safety meetings, toolbox talks, and refresher courses to enhance employee awareness and adherence to best practices.
Assist in onboarding and training new hires on safety policies and defensive driving techniques.
Risk Management & Incident Response:
Respond to accidents and incidents, ensuring proper documentation and timely reporting.
Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and company leadership as needed.
Maintain accurate records of all safety-related incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.
Recommend changes to improve safety performance based on data analysis and trends.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Serve as a safety advocate, fostering a proactive safety culture within the organization.
Work closely with operations, maintenance, and HR teams to align safety initiatives with company objectives.
Act as a liaison between frontline employees and management, ensuring safety concerns are addressed effectively.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in safety, transportation, or a related field preferred.
2 years of experience in transportation safety, compliance, or operations, preferably in fixed-route transit.
Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to train and mentor employees.
Experience conducting investigations and implementing corrective action plans.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety management systems.
Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with passenger endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
Ability to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, bus yards, and office environments.
