JOB DESCRIPTION
Lead a team of talented fabricators to complete custom projects for a variety of clients. You will be responsible for fabricating exhibits, environments, sets, and interiors. You’ll utilise a broad skill set with high attention to detail and work closely with Project Managers and Department Managers to bring projects to life. Manage a team of fabricators and artists from project start through installation. The Project Lead will participate in fabrication, installation, and other shop activities.
A successful Project Lead shows initiative developing their skill sets, stays informed of the latest tools and technologies, and follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) implemented by Ravenswood.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Carpentry:
• Fabricate elements for projects including: cabinets, panels, framing, unique mechanical elements, sculptural, and architectural work.
• Assist with prototyping new builds.
• Carefully pack elements for cross-country trucking; masterful trailer Tetris.
• Improve and streamline shop procedures.
• Maintain a team environment by assisting with shop projects, shop cleaning, and generally keeping busy.
• Follow safety, PPE, and shop procedures. Offer ideas for improvement.
Lead:
• Align individual tasks within the larger job picture and know how they function together.
• Proactively provide updates to all stakeholders.
• Oversee and assign workload to project team.
• Have a thorough understanding of project time and materials budget. Choose approaches and find effeciencies to ensure strong performance.
• Work with the entire Ravenswood team to make the employee experience of projects seamless and enjoyable.
• Communicate between project managers, department managers, and team members to anticipate and plan for project roadblocks.
• Update and escalate issues to the Project Managers including: material overrun, shop delays, and re-occurring problems.
• Maintain an eye on tools, materials, and shop supplies. Keep shop managers informed of any issues to prevent shortages and delays.
• Pursue a process that integrates Ravenswood Studio’s key predictors of success.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
• Relevant degree or diploma, professional certification, or equivalent work experience/demonstrated skills.
• Minimum of 10 years’ full-time, in-shop fabrication experience.
• Familiarity building non-symmetrical, curved, and complex elements.
• Advanced tool knowledge.
• Advanced technical and construction drawing interpretation skills.
• Strong working familiarity with substrates such as: acrylic, sintra, composites, plastics, laminates, solid surface, and foams.
• Broad knowledge of modern fabrication methods.
• Ability to communicate professionally.
• Ability to be assigned to multiple projects and prioritize between them.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to consult others and check instincts when needed.
• Enthusiasm for building and a sharp eye for details.
• Ability to attend offsite installs (longer than 2 weeks is voluntary).
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, 65 pounds occasionally, and 100 pounds with assistance.
• Wear protective footwear at all times.
• Wear ear protection and protective eyewear as required by task. Use respiratory PPE safely and appropriately.
• Stand for prolonged periods.
• Ability to read construction documentation and use a scale rule.
• Ability to interpret artistic elevations, models, renderings, sketches, and drawings.
• Competency with all tools in their department.
• Provide personal hand tools, cordless power tools, layout tools, and appropriate tool storage.
• A positive attitude and enthusiasm for fabrication.
• Ability to commute to Lincolnwood, IL 60712.
EXPERIENCE:
• Project Lead for crew of at least 6 people: 5 years (Required).
• Cabinet Making: 5 years (Required).
• Full-time in shop custom fabrication: 10 years (Required).
