Job Title: Custodian 

Department: Operations – Services 

Reports To: RavenTek Program Manager

Location: Charleston Regional Center, Charleston, SC

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-exempt

Clearance: Secret


Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for keeping offices, buildings, and facilities in clean and orderly condition. This position supports the mission of the Department of State. The performance of this position is key to RavenTek's performance on the DOS FCU contract, and therefore RavenTek's mission to support the DOS. 

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs periodic cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. 
  • Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Gathers and empties trash to include trashcans in the proximity of exterior main entrances.
  • Provides services, supplies, and cleans restrooms.
  • Cleans and polishes furniture and drinking fountain fixtures.
  • Dusting of office furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  • Mix water and detergents in containers according to product specifications to prevent damage to floors, fixtures, or furniture.
  • Drives vehicle for travel across the facility to various buildings.
  • May have to move equipment and supplies either manually or by using a hand truck.
  • Informs lead and/or manager of the need of any major equipment for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Other janitorial/cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
  • Complete required compliance training as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Critical Skills 

  • Possess and demonstrate a courteous and positive attitude toward customers.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand policies, procedures, and operating instructions in English.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of assigned tasks.
  • Must have ability to maintain assigned work hours.
  • Must have knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Education & Work Experience
  • Related custodial experience is preferred but not required.

Certifications, Licenses

  • N/A

Special Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Successful background check and drug screening.

Work Environment

Employees will be working indoors in an office environment with other people. The essential duties of this job are performed indoors and potentially outdoors and may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as extreme weather, extreme temperature and noise fluctuations, dust, vibrations, machinery, and hazardous materials.


Physical Demands

To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, the employees must be able to stand for extended periods of time and walk continuously throughout their shift; may need to operate medium-weight cleaning equipment, such as vacuum, broom, and mop; need to move, lift, push, pull, and carry items that typically weigh up to 50 lbs., such as furniture, cleaning equipment, and chemical containers. The ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, stoop, crouch, and may also need to reach with their hands and arms and use their muscles for extended periods will be required for this position. The work may involve moderate exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and unpleasant odors. Employees must have the endurance to perform repetitive tasks over extended periods. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
