The engagement specialist assists prospective clients in navigating the registration and enrollment process. Through a culturally and trauma-informed approach, the Engagement Specialist supports client engagement by coordinating necessary documentation and demographic information, completing screening processes as appropriate, and interfacing with the agency’s electronic health record, insurance companies, and other payor sources. The Engagement Specialist meets face to face with clients to complete the financial intake process and ensure positive and efficient connection with services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer telephone calls and assist new clients with scheduling their initial appointment.
- Meet with new clients coming to the agency to review intake forms, gather copies of information, update the electronic health record, and complete medical screening.
- Track data and document and/or report as required for the program.
- Oversee conclusion of the intake process, working closely with registration and clinical staff to ensure timely client engagement.
- Ensure clients are connected to ongoing services and gather data on outcomes.
- Assist with client education on agency services and provide supportive outreach.
- Connect clients with community resources, education on agency services and provide supportive outreach.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Effective in establishing rapport and building a collaborative relationship with adults, youth, and their families/caregivers.
- Displays professionalism, maturity, and respect in interactions with clients and their families.
- Demonstrates good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills by returning and responding to phone calls or emails within 24 hours and other correspondence promptly.
- Keeps appropriate professional boundaries and seeking supervision as needed
- Displays strong written and organizational skills and can work in a team-based environment with diverse populations.
- Able to work effectively with technology including basic Microsoft office programs and electronic records, and navigate online portals for interfacing with third-party entities.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or 2-3 years of relative work experience
- Must be able to pass background check
Preferred Experience:
- Customer service experience preferred
- Experience in behavioral health or a related public sector human services or healthcare field is a plus
- Experience and/or knowledge of basic billing processes, insurance plans, and fee schedules is a plus.
- Trauma informed care and strong client engagement skills
