About the Program :
Sistema Ravinia is an intensive orchestral music education program that provides daily music training for students at several schools in the Lake County area. Participating students meet after school throughout the year at their nucleo (program site) and are taught in sectionals and full orchestra. Shaped by the philosophy of the noted El Sistema model, Ravinia has embraced the notion of transforming groups of children into communities of musicians who in turn transform their communities. Students receive mentorship from teachers and administrators that make them feel loved and valued as an asset to their nucleo community.
Launched in 2012 at Catalyst Circle Rock School in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood (now multiple schools in the area), Sistema Ravinia expanded to serve Lake County and other Ravinia-neighboring schools in 2015—hosting rehearsals in Bennett Gordon Hall—as well as Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood in 2020.
Duties and Responsibilities include and are not limited to :
Set-up, take-down, and coordination of student rehearsals and performances
Welcome and dismiss students to and from daily programming
Communicate program information with families through phone calls, emails and texts
Maintain database by entering updated student information and attendance
Maintain organized program spaces and files
Attend and assist with student registration, parent meetings, and special events
Assist with the ongoing inventory of instruments, music, and supplies
Assist with creation and distribution of forms and materials
Knowledge and Skills Required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with parents, educators, teachers, administrators and persons from diverse backgrounds
Proven ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs with the ability and to learn new programs
Physical labor required; ability to move chairs, stands, instruments, and supplies between multiple floors
Works well independently to complete projects on-time
Access to reliable transportation to travel between program sites and events
Education and Experience
Related work experience
Experience and desire to work with children and families from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds

Work Environment
Work Monday – Thursday afternoons throughout the school year and summer program, at Ravinia and at school locations as assigned. Average work schedule is 1 : 00 PM to 6 : 00 PM.
Flexibility to be available 8-12 evenings and weekends per year for special events, meetings and concerts.
Interaction with young students, parents, teachers and administrators where the safety of the students is paramount
There may be weeks where this position is not scheduled to work based on school schedules and program need
