About the Role We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented GIS Specialist to join our client's team. This role focuses on utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to manage, analyze, and visualize spatial data critical to utility operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in GIS and a passion for optimizing utility infrastructure through geospatial solutions.
Responsibilities
Collect, clean, and maintain geospatial datasets, ensuring accuracy and compatibility with existing systems.
Perform advanced spatial analyses to support utility operations, including asset management, outage tracking, and network planning.
Develop high-quality maps and visualizations to effectively communicate data insights to internal and external stakeholders.
Integrate GIS solutions with utility software platforms, such as SCADA, ERP, or asset management systems.
Digitize and update utility infrastructure data, including power lines, substations, pipelines, and service areas.
Develop custom scripts and tools using Python, SQL, or similar technologies to automate GIS workflows and improve efficiency.
Ensure spatial data and GIS outputs comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Work closely with engineers, planners, and project managers to provide geospatial support for various utility projects.
Provide training and technical support to team members on GIS tools and applications.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related field. Advanced certifications in GIS (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Certification) are a plus.
Proven experience in GIS, with a strong portfolio of projects in the utility sector.
Proficiency in GIS software such as Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.
Strong technical skills in Python, SQL, or other programming languages for geospatial data processing and analysis.
Experience with GPS data collection and integration into GIS systems.
Familiarity with utility operations and infrastructure, including electric, water, and gas systems.
