Raymore-Peculiar School District is seeking an experienced, innovative, and results-oriented Director of Safety and Security to join our team! Our ideal candidate is committed to ensuring a safe environment across all district campuses. The ideal candidate will have experience in law enforcement, security management, school safety, or related field. Experience working with youth populations and POST certification is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive security policies, procedures, and protocols aligned with best practices in school safety.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify and mitigate security threats.
- Collaborate with other district administration regarding the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of security systems, including surveillance cameras, access control, and alarm systems.
- Respond to security incidents, threats, and emergencies, coordinating with law enforcement and emergency responders as necessary.
- Investigate security-related incidents and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to school safety and security.
- Develop, maintain, and update the district’s emergency response plan, ensuring alignment with local and national best practices.
- Conduct training and drills for students and staff, including active shooter response, lockdown procedures, fire safety, and other emergency protocols.
- Act as the district’s liaison with law enforcement, fire departments, emergency management agencies, and other relevant entities.
- Coordinate crisis response efforts and ensure all schools are equipped with appropriate emergency supplies and communication tools.
- Provide security and emergency preparedness training for district employees, including teachers, administrators, and support staff.
- Lead professional development efforts to increase staff awareness of safety protocols and situational awareness.
- Develop and oversee threat assessment teams at each school, providing guidance on identifying and addressing potential safety concerns.
- Foster relationships with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and community organizations to enhance school security initiatives.
- Communicate safety policies and procedures to students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
- Represent the district at safety-related meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
- Oversee security personnel, including school resource officers (SROs), contracted security staff, or district-employed security personnel.
- Evaluate and manage security staff performance, ensuring adherence to district policies and security standards.
