Job Summary:
The Construction Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the successful delivery of federal construction projects by assisting Project Managers with project planning, coordination, and execution. This role is intended as a career development position for those advancing into project management and is ideal for candidates with foundational experience in federal construction. The APM collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, manages documentation and logistics, and may oversee small scopes of work under the guidance of a Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, budgets, and procurement plans.
- Track subcontractor performance, material delivery timelines, and contract milestones.
- Maintain project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, daily reports, and meeting minutes.
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure timely deliverables.
- Support permitting, regulatory compliance, and quality control tracking.
- Communicate regularly with on-site personnel to monitor progress, safety, and resource needs.
- Perform field walks and inspections, identifying and escalating issues to the PM.
- Assist in preparing cost estimates and proposals for new government projects.
- May supervise small work crews or specific phases of a project.
- Provide hands-on support such as site cleanup, minor tool/machinery operation, or material organization, as needed.
- Operate company vehicles to support on-site operations.
- Other duties as assigned in support of project success.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field or an Associate’s degree with equivalent experience is required.
- 2–4 years of experience in construction, preferably on government contracts.
- Familiarity with project management tools, federal contract compliance, and construction documentation.
- OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- USACE CQM certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 60 days).
- Proficient in using computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and construction project management tools.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must be available for occasional business travel, including short-notice trips.
