Job Summary:

The Safety Director for Manufacturing is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry standards. This role works closely with leadership and employees to promote a culture of safety, prevent workplace incidents, and ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Program Development & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and enforce company-wide safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes and industry best practices, updating safety programs as needed.

Training & Employee Education:

  • Conduct new hire safety orientations and ongoing training for all employees.
  • Develop and lead training programs on hazard identification, machine safety, PPE usage, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and other critical safety topics.
  • Ensure all employees receive the necessary certifications and training to perform their jobs safely.

Workplace Safety & Risk Management:

  • Perform routine safety audits and inspections of the manufacturing facility to identify potential hazards.
  • Monitor workplace conditions and implement improvements to reduce risks.
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents, near misses, and accidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.

Incident Response & Prevention:

  • Develop and oversee emergency response plans and procedures, including fire safety, chemical spills, and evacuation protocols.
  • Ensure proper use and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety tools.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance reports.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Work closely with plant managers, supervisors, and employees to integrate safety into daily operations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related issues, audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives to reinforce a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5 years of experience in manufacturing safety management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a related field (preferred).
  • Certifications: OSHA 30/OSHA 500, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or similar safety certifications preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and machine safety.
  • Experience conducting facility inspections, audits, and accident investigations.
  • Familiarity with safety reporting software and compliance documentation.
