Job Summary : The Forensic Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems while investigating failures, accidents, and malfunctions. This position combines technical expertise in electrical systems with investigative skills to ensure compliance, reliability, and safety, while also identifying and addressing root causes of electrical incidents.
Key Responsibilities :
Design and Implementation of Electrical Systems :
- Plan, design, and install complex electrical systems for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
- Ensure all installations meet local, state, and national electrical codes.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting :
Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components to ensure optimal performance and safety.Diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.Investigation and Analysis :
Conduct in-depth investigations of electrical failures, accidents, or incidents, including fires, equipment malfunctions, and power outages.Analyze system components, wiring, and design to identify defects, damage, or operational issues.Failure Prevention and System Optimization :
Develop recommendations to improve system design, prevent recurring issues, and enhance performance.Implement corrective actions to address identified vulnerabilities or hazards.Documentation and Reporting :
Prepare detailed reports outlining investigation findings, root cause analyses, and corrective measures.Document electrical system designs, modifications, and inspections for compliance and future reference.Expert Consultation :
Provide expert opinions and technical support to legal teams, insurance companies, regulatory agencies, and clients.Serve as an expert witness in legal or insurance cases involving electrical incidents.Training and Supervision :
Mentor and supervise junior electricians and technical staff, ensuring adherence to safety standards and best practices.Conduct training sessions on electrical safety, maintenance, and investigative techniques.Regulatory Compliance and Safety :
Ensure all work complies with NFPA, OSHA, and other relevant standards and regulations.Perform hazard assessments and recommend safety improvements.Testing and Reconstruction :
Use advanced testing methods to replicate failure scenarios and confirm root causes.Reconstruct electrical systems or incidents to validate findings and inform prevention strategies.Qualifications : Education :
High school diploma required; a degree in electrical engineering or a related field preferred.Licensing & Certification :
Master Electrician license.Experience :
Extensive experience in electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and system design.Proven expertise in investigating and analyzing electrical incidents.Skills :
Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills for creating reports and providing expert testimony.Proficiency with electrical diagnostic tools, CAD software, and modeling programs.Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.Work Environment : Fieldwork at job sites and investigation locations, combined with office-based analysis and report writing.
