Job Summary

The A/R Account Specialist II supports the management of all client accounts receivable, processes patient and insurance carrier payments, rejections and other related correspondence. The A/R Account Specialist II functions as billing liaison to intermediaries, insurance carriers, patients and guarantors. The A/R Account Specialist II functions under RBS established departmental policies and procedures, maintains compassion with patients while following compliance and privacy guidelines.

Duties:

1. Within assigned work team, monitors accounts receivable by age from date of service and by patient.

2. Communicate with insurance carriers, patients, or medical office and hospital staff to appropriately adjudicate patients accounts.

3. Seeks assistance from direct supervisor with difficult accounts.

4. Follows strict guidelines established by RBS when taking contractual adjustments of gross charges, or writing off a charge or portion of a charge to bad debt.

5. Prevents “timely filing” denials by strict adherence to guidelines set by carrier for follow-up to denied claims.

6. Following established guidelines, utilizes the information system tools to provide an audit trail on each patient account.

7. Pays close attention to correspondence from carriers and patients with a goal toward expedient resolution to outstanding claims, and cash collections.

8. Provides assistance to other work teams as requested.

9. Adheres to work schedule, arrives to work on time prepared to begin promptly and rarely takes unscheduled time off.

10. Posts payments to patients’ accounts according to established policies.

11. Maintains strict confidentiality in all dealings related to patients, physicians, accounts and fellow employees.

12. Performs all other duties as may be necessary to support the approved business operations of RBS.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements

High School Graduate

Minimum of 3-5yrs 3rd party medical billing knowledge

Working knowledge of medical A/R software programs preferred

PC skills (Microsoft Word & Outlook)

Excellent customer service skills with good written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge of radiology billing preferred

Medicare, Medi-Cal accounts receivable experience required

Close attention to detail

Demonstrated competence in math

Analytical skills- able to identify trends in denials and underpayments.

After probationary period - able to produce quality and productivity standards set by RBS

Proficient in drafting appeals submission of documentation resulting in payment

Some CPT and ICD-9 & ICD-10 and Correct Coding Initiative experience required

Able to reconcile and balance accounts per EOB/ERA as well as knowledge of COB and verification of allowable per fee schedule.

Train and Q/A work of others as assigned
