English Language Instructor for IRISE

Job Description – English Language Instructor for IRISE - Reformed Church of Highland Park Affordable Housing Corporation (RCHP-AHC) 

Position Description 

This position is for an English Language Learning (ELL) instructor who would provide direct instruction in-person and online to IRISE refugee clients in the Neptune/Asbury Park area. 

This position is located in the Neptune and Asbury Park area of NJ. 

• The position will entail teaching 5 or 6 courses to adult ELL learners with an eye to clients in the Ocean County area.  2 or 3 courses will be in person in the Neptune area and 2 or 3 courses will be online as need demands.  1 or more evening and or weekend online courses are required.  The primary role of the ELL-focused instruction is to teach English speaking, literacy and job readiness language to ELL adult learners. 

 Specific duties would likely include: 
 

• Teaching an all-level conversation class (1.5 hours 1x/ week) 

• Teaching 2 or 3 beginner or low intermediate English classes (3 instructional hours 2 or 3x/week). 

• Teaching an online ELL evening course or courses (3 instructional hours 2 or 3x/week). 

• Conducting English language intake assessments to place clients at the correct proficiency level. 

• Assessing and reporting on client progress to the English Language Director.  

• Case noting client attendance, assessments and specific ELL instructor client services. 

• Meeting as requested with the ELL director to communicate needs and progress. 

• Participating monthly in ELL staff meetings in the Highland Park office in person or online. 

• Other duties as assigned. 
   
   

Compensation 

This position is for 40 hours/week at $47,500/year plus benefits. 

Qualifications 

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Teaching experience is necessary as this job will require a level of independence, creativity and flexibility. A degree in TESOL or a related educational field is highly preferred.  Qualified candidates will need strong communication skills, both written and oral, and will have the ability to prioritize, focus and problem solve alone and in a team context.
