Substation "Design Manager" Engineer Job Description and Summary :
RCMT Energy Services is seeking to hire an experienced Senior Substation Electrical Engineer to join its team in Puerto Rico.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of engineering and design of electric utility substations up to 230 kV, including supervision of junior engineers, entry level engineers, designers and drafters.
Its responsibilities will include the resource planning and supervision of engineering teams to accomplish assigned task within budget and schedule on a senior leadership role. Integrate assigned work into project plans, schedules and budget, and perform administrative functions, including implementation of management policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the review and approval of complete design and construction packages including operating one-line diagrams, equipment one-line diagrams, general arrangements for control house layouts and substation yard layouts, AC and DC schematic diagrams, relay and control bill of materials, control wiring diagrams, SCADA systems, communication networks, cable and conduit plans and schedules, electrical bill of materials, grounding plans and details, lightning plans and details, yard lighting plans and details, etc. This position may also include reviewing design calculations, coordination studies and relays settings in accordance with industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, NESC, etc., as well as working within client specific guidelines and standards. Utilize various client information systems to retrieve information and to deliver design packages.
Projects may include travel to client sites as needed to perform job functions at existing facilities such as, but not limited to, acquiring field data necessary to prepare the appropriate design. As senior substation engineer, a successful candidate will need to provide guidelines for the junior engineers in the coordination of the design and engineering activities with other disciplines such as Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and other Engineering disciplines, as with other engineering offices.
This position will report to the General Manager in Puerto Rico.
Job Requirements :
- Must have a bachelor's degree (BS or BE) in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a concentration in Power Systems.
- 10-15( ) years of experience in engineering and design of Electric Utility Distribution Substations and High Voltage Transmission Centers.
- Working knowledge of the NEC, NESC, NEMA, ANSI and IEEE codes.
- Ability to create new, and to revise substation plan layout, one-line diagrams, AC and DC schematic diagrams, control wiring diagrams, conduit plans, grounding plans, lighting plans and bill of materials.
- Must demonstrate ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks and apply individual judgment, initiative and decision making.
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with his staff, clients, equipment vendors and construction contractors.
- Must be computer proficient with Microsoft Office software products.
- Proficient in the use of engineering analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, AMPCalc, Cymecap, and / or similar applications.
- Perform other related assignments as required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license to drive to client sites and between branch offices. Nationwide and International Travel may be periodically required. Expected travel time approx. 5-10% and can vary over time.
- Must have a PE License in the state of Puerto Rico and the willingness to obtain a PE in additional states, as necessary.
- Ability to work in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
- US Citizen or the ability to work in the US without sponsorship.
