PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Development is responsible for supervising a team responsible for creating and implementing strategies that result in advancing RCMA’s mission and goals through effective communication, fundraising, and community engagement. With support from the Executive Director and the Executive Director of Business and Finance, the Director of Development will develop and implement comprehensive communications, fundraising, and community engagement plans to optimize support from private sources of revenue.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING; however, other duties may be assigned:

1.       Supports the Executive Director in managing relationships with board members by supporting the creation and execution of stewardship and solicitation strategies for each.

2.     Under the direction of the Executive Director, together with the leadership team, aligns communication, development, and community relations efforts to create a unified approach to development across departments.

3.     Creates integrated annual communications, development, and community engagement plans and evaluates on a quarterly basis to annual fundraising needs.

4.    Supervises and leads the communications, development, and community relations team through mentoring, goal setting, performance management, and professional supports development. Supports the creation of a culture of innovation and accountability. Ensures they have the resources and support they need to be successful.

5.     Leads effort to enhance RCMA’s brand identity, ensuring clear consistent messaging across all platforms and audiences.

6.     Leads efforts to protect and promote the organization’s reputation through developing proactive and reactive communications strategies related to media and crisis communication.

7.     Develops and oversees fundraising goals and strategies to secure financial support from individual donors, grants, and events.

8.    Coordinates capital campaign feasibility and planning studies and develops capital campaign plans. Implements procedures/policies, manage and provide direction to campaign team members and volunteers.

9.     Cultivates and maintains relationships with donors through personalized communication and activities, ensuring effective communication and engagement to build a pool of long-term support.

10. Supports the Executive Director in identifying and managing principal donors by creating stewardship and solicitation strategies for each.

11.    Manages a portfolio of 30-100 principal-level and major donors.

12.  Oversees systems and process creation that foster strong relationships with key community stakeholders state-wide, including partners, volunteers, and beneficiaries.

13.  Oversees development and implementation of media strategies to secure positive coverage and manage media relations.

14. Coordinates with the leadership team to develop and align internal communication strategies to keep staff informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational goals.

15.  Supports the development of systems and structures to ensure effective information flow within the organization to support collaboration.

16.  Collaborate with RCMA’s finance and other departments within the agency to ensure the integrity and accountability for all gifts/donations.

17.  Establishes metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communication, development, and community relations strategies. Use data and feedback to continuously improve strategies and outcomes, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of the organization and its stakeholders.

18.  Carries out other special projects and other duties as assigned.


MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum five years of experience in private sector/foundation fund development with a proven record. Expert and comprehensive knowledge and skills in major gift fundraising principles, practices, and techniques. Skilled in making oral presentations to large and small audiences and writing clear and concise reports, evaluations, and narrative pieces. Demonstrated capability to work with personal computers in Microsoft Windows. Knowledge of Raisers Edge.


Above all else, the possession of two requisites must be established: a personal concern and sensitivity for one’s fellow man, and the capacity to work effectively and graciously with subordinates.


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in non-profit fundraising.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bilingual (English-Spanish) reading, writing, and speaking skills preferred. Excellent communication skills.
