The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in primary care is a registered nurse prepared at the master's or doctorate level as a Nurse Practitioner. This role manages primary and secondary care conditions, evaluating tertiary care conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Authorized to prescribe and dispense medication upon state licensure approval.
- Collects, orders, and interprets lab work and diagnostic studies under agreed protocols.
- Orders therapies like occupational, speech, physical therapy, and psychological counseling when necessary.
- Maintains comprehensive health histories and performs complete physical examinations, developing differential diagnoses and implementing plans of care.
- Provides client education on relevant topics.
- Organizes referrals and consultations when appropriate.
- Participates in research as requested and promotes cost-effective delivery of care.
Qualifications:
- Nurse Practitioner with a master's or doctorate degree in nursing, meeting nationally recognized course content and clinical preparation standards.
- Possesses valid licensure as a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
- Knowledge in medical claim billing and eligibility for a DEA license.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), with optional certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
