Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned nonprofit clients, offering expert financial advice and guidance to support their organizational objectives
  • Conduct comprehensive financial assessments, analyzing budgets, cash flow, grant management, and financial statements to identify areas for improvement and efficiency
  • Collaborate with clients to develop comprehensive budgets and financial forecasts aligned with their long-term goals and objectives
  • Oversee and support the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely financial reports and presentations to key stakeholders, including finance committees and boards of directors
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on key financial metrics, industry trends, and nonprofit best practices
  • Ensure client compliance with all relevant financial regulations, reporting requirements, and funding sources (e.g. federal, state, and local government grants)
  • Assess and mitigate financial risks for clients by implementing effective strategies to safeguard their financial assets and investments
  • Serve as subject matter expert and advisor on all client-related accounting and financial matters, including, but not limited to, the Code of Federal Regulations, indirect cost rates, allocation methodologies, and accounting standard updates (ASUs)
  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders at each client organization, serving as a trusted advisor and advocate
  • Address client concerns and ensure timely resolution of issues

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (Master's Degree preferred)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • 10 years of experience in the nonprofit industry
  • 10 years of senior accounting experience (Director of Finance/Controller/CFO/Chief Accounting Officer)
  • Extensive federal and state grant administration/management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of industry-specific accounting software and advanced Excel skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong business acumen and ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders and C-level executives
  • Experience in people management and leading high-performance teams, creating and implementing processes and efficiencies
  • Work experience in consulting and/or business process outsourcing (BPO)
