POSITION SUMMARY: This position operates and maintains the Riverside Treatment Plant on a daily basis, including remote pump stations and monitoring of distribution tank and pressure levels.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative and leadership by promoting and maintaining a positive image and fostering pride and professionalism in the workplace.
Staff are expected to provide exceptional customer service, uphold the public interest, and advance the vision set forth by the RDM and community.
WHAT DOES A PLANT OPERATOR DO? SAMPLE DUTIES INCLUDE:
Operates the water treatment plant and performs ongoing and preventive maintenance duties which include periodic inspection of mechanical equipment and making adjustments to pumps, motors, chlorinators, and other chemical feed equipment.
Regulates the flow of water and chemical through the treatment processes; puts treatment units in and out of service; regulates the addition of chemicals to the process.
Records meter readings; maintains log sheets and charts.
Collects water samples and conducts standard chemical analyses of collected samples.
Reports operating characteristics of the plant to supervisors and other plant staff, including recommendations for work to be performed and material/equipment needs.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFYING CRITERIA: An equivalent combination of credentials and experience to sufficiently perform the duties of the position may be considered:
Graduation from high school or vocational school or GED.
Helpful: Post-secondary course work in water treatment, chemistry, or microbiology.
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Licensed applicants should have or must obtain within 6 months of hire: Pennsylvania Class A Water Treatment Operator Certificate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described
below are representative of those required for the position.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather conditions.
Walking, standing; stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, twisting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Working on irregular surfaces or heights above the ground.
Use hands to handle, grasp, and write.
See and communicate effectively.
Must be able to use body to work, move or carry objects or materials.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
