The Director of MarCom is responsible for developing and executing integrated, strategic marketing communications plans for both internal and external audiences. A variety of marketing communications assets and tools/resources are developed by this position to aid in advancing the Y’s mission and increasing/enhancing brand perception. This position serves as a collaborative partner to leading practice areas and the Y Network, providing counsel to support business goals and ensuring alignment with Y-USA’s organizational priorities. This position also serves as Y-USA’s Marketing Practice Leader, providing leadership that advances marketing efforts, promotes best practices within the network delivery system and implements quality improvement strategies in response to Marketing Leading Practices.

  • Works within defined message platform and content strategy to elevate consistent brand voice and visuals across organizational and service delivery system marketing communications efforts
  • Develops and executes integrated, strategic marketing communications plans, campaigns and events that position the Y as a vital community asset
  • Develops compelling and insightful messages, content, materials and resources geared toward multiple target audience personas across a range of marketing communications channels to drive understanding of and engagement with the Y
  • Packages and promotes opportunities and tools/resources for Ys to activate marketing communications plans and campaigns in their local markets
  • Utilizes research insights that highlight environmental trends and shifting demographics to inform marketing communications strategies and tactics
  • Shares leading practice area knowledge, best practices, insights and applications with Y-USA colleagues, Y leaders/marketing staff and service delivery partners to drive effectiveness and impact
  • Disseminates practice area intelligence, tips and tools to ensure Y-USA colleagues and service delivery partners have the resources they need to effectively engage stakeholders
  • Develops collaborative working relationships and delivers specialized marketing consulting to Y-USA colleagues and service delivery partners in support of business goals and organizational priorities
  • Convenes and leads cross-functional/cross-departmental project teams as needed to define and execute against marketing communications strategies and tactics
  • Supervises direct report(s) in implementing marketing communications plans and supports their professional development
  • Identifies opportunities to optimize content and continuously improve the strategic relevancy, effectiveness and quality of marketing communications and related tools and resources produced by Y-USA
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or related field is required
  • Minimum 10 years in a marketing communications role or equivalent role supporting marketing communications efforts for a matrix organization is required; experience in a marketing role at a local YMCA is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and application of the latest trends, insights and best practices in integrated marketing strategies, tactics and tools is required
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, set direction for and guide strategic marketing communications practices and message platforms is required
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic marketing communications plans and campaigns within defined message platform is required
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize research that highlights dynamic environmental trends and shifting demographics to inform persuasive marketing communications resources is required
  • Demonstrated experience in developing compelling content for a variety of tools/resources (such as key messaging documents, newsletters, collateral, email communications, blog posts, digital content, op-eds) is required
  • Demonstrated experience in both incepting and executing creative assets, including visual slide decks; video projects; graphics; print and digital design projects is required
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and planning skills are required, including project/production management capabilities and ability to balance multiple projects, priorities and deadlines is required; virtual community management experience is a plus
  • Experience leading and working with cross-functional and intra-departmental teams is required
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills are required
  • Excellent strategic and conceptual thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills are required
  • Excellent collaboration, negotiation, facilitation and presentation skills are required
  • Experience interacting with and driving results for C-suite leaders is required
  • Supervisory experience or demonstrated ability to manage and develop team members is required
  • Ability to travel as needed is required
