Senior Manager, Learning & Leadership Development – User Experience

The Senior Manager, Learning & Leadership Development - User Experience will lead beginning-to-end research, measurement, and design processes to improve user experience across the YMCA’s national knowledge-sharing platform (i.e., extranet) and learning technology platforms (e.g., LMS). Design and execute the annual continuous improvement plan around the overall experience, user behavior and interaction, and visual design.

  • Lead strategy development and plan execution for continuously improving user experience within the knowledge-sharing platform (i.e., extranet) and learning technology platforms (e.g., LMS); including but not limited to optimization of software features and functions, visual design, site architecture, platform moderation, promotion of user-generated content, and in-platform application of organization-wide taxonomy.
  • Lead user experience projects such as user research, user journey maps, process flows, usability testing, wireframing and prototyping, and the configuration and release of platform enhancements.
  • Oversee and manage projects, project teams, and backlog (releases, hotfixes, new system integrations, enhancements) to continuously improve the user experience within platforms.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise in-house and/or freelance user experience/user interface design staff to design the user interface of platforms, applications and websites, including selecting and assigning projects, managing project budgets, and meeting project deadlines.
  • Manage external vendor relationships and contracts.
  • Develop, document and manage policies, process, and procedures for execution of platform features and functions to optimize the user experience.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify and develop user-centric learning technology and vendor solutions to meet the needs of user groups including YMCA of the USA staff and volunteers, partners across the Y network, learners, and third-party partners (e.g., cohort learning platforms, AI course design, interactive digital communications), documenting business requirements and usability expectations for learning technology and knowledge-sharing platforms.
  • Manage the evaluation and measurement strategy to assess user experience and online community healthy to inform the continuous improvement plan; analyze data and present to leadership, key stakeholders, and collaborative partners.
  • Provide direction and expertise for the development of leading practices for online communities using industry trends and standards and guide the development and delivery of trainings, support, and resources for community moderators.
  • Research and test emerging technologies, best practices, and tools to continuously improve the internal reach and return on investment for learning technology and knowledge-sharing platforms; stay current on industry trends to proactively find new opportunities to explore and adapt.
  • Apply human-centered design principles to influence project strategy and direction.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in a relevant field such as UX Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Information Sciences, or Human-Computer Interaction required. Master’s degree in one of these fields and/or certificate in UX/UI (e.g., Neilsen Norman Group, Google UX Design Professional) preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience working in web or digital design, user research, and usability testing
  • Knowledge and skills desired online community management, stakeholder management, Agile project management, understanding of the human-centered design process, cross-functional team collaboration
  • Ability to travel 25 percent of the time
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook) required.
  • Experience with/capacity to learn and navigate multiple technology systems and software programs (e.g., Zoom, Salesforce, MangoApps, Figma Pro, Articulate, and YMCA-specific applications).
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environment and circumstances and to guide others in support of change management
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with individuals across a broad range of groups
  • Organizational and time management skills required.
