PROFILE SUMMARY:
The Compounding Pharmacy Technician prepares compounded sterile products and performs related activities under the direction of a pharmacist. Additionally, this role assists with the promotion and delivery of quality, safe, rational, and effective pharmaceutical services to patients and healthcare practitioners of River’s Edge Specialty Pharmacy. The technician uses critical thinking skills and exercises independent decision-making as needed to ensure safe and rational medication therapy. They also understand and exemplify excellent customer service.
KEY ACCOUNTABLITIES:
Prescription Compounding, Preparation, Processing
• Prepare compounded sterile products using aseptic technique, ensuring compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards, in accordance with RE Pharmacy policies and procedures
• Assist in setting up the compounding room, equipment, and supplies for sterile medication preparation.
• Perform general cleaning and maintenance duties as directed, including participating in cleanroom product introduction activities. Ensures pharmacy surfaces, primary & secondary engineering controls are cleaned and sanitized
• Process new and refill prescriptions for home health care and specialty pharmacy patients.
• Prepare medications so they are accurately compounded
• Accurately label and package medications
• Review pending refills with the supervising pharmacist and generating the necessary refill documentation.
• Pick all supplies and medications on the compounding sheet and delivery ticket, staging them for pharmacist verification.
• Generate delivery and pick-up tickets.
• Communicate with patients within the pharmacy technician scope to assess medication compliance, supply needs, and overall care coordination.
• Gather, organize, and update clinical data in pharmacy software for review by the patient care team, including:
o Lab results
o Patient contact documentation
o Hospitalizations
o End-of-therapy documentation
• Prepare records and monitor results for pharmaceutical quality assurance testing.
• Assist in inventory management, ensuring accurate tracking of medications to be dispensed and ordered, utilizing inventory log sheets per pharmacy protocol.
• Generate pharmacy and clinical reports as directed by the supervisor.
• Support non-clinical coordination of patient assessments, drug compounding, and timely delivery.
• Participate in daily patient care meetings to provide status updates on assigned patients.
• Track controlled substance prescriptions requiring prescriber signatures and maintain accurate controlled substance logs in pharmacy software.
• Complete annual pharmacy competency assessments and validations for compounding and other key areas.
• Assist pharmacists with counting, bottling, and labeling specialty and oral medications in compliance with state regulations.
• Maintain compliance for DME equipment, including ambulatory infusion pumps (cleaning, calibration, and inventory tracking).
• Assist with record keeping and maintaining pharmacy temperature and cleaning logs
• Inspect equipment and document any failures or defects.
Plus – may perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demand Requirements:
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Frequent bending, stooping, reaching.
• Ability to carry at least 30lbs
Education:
• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Required License: CA BOP Pharmacy Technician License in Good standing
• Preferred Certification: National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB).
Experience:
• Prior experience in pharmacy medication filling (required)
• Specialty pharmacy experience (preferred)
• Technician registration in practicing state (required)
• Certification from an accredited pharmacy technician program (as required by state regulations)

• Full-time position with standard business hours; flexibility to work additional hours during peak periods is expected.

PAY RANGE:
$21 - $28 an hour DOE
