The Electrical Infrastructure Designer is responsible for designing, building, and updating electrical utility infrastructure to meet the needs of consumers, while ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and organizational objectives. Key Responsibilities
- Design and Planning:
- Design overhead and underground electrical lines at consumer sites.
- Size transformers and electric services.
- Create design builds using computer mapping software for material lists and construction estimates.
- Acquire necessary Easements and permits for project completion.
Project Management:
- Oversee projects from initiation to completion, including as-built designs for system integration.
- Collaborate with utility companies and contractors to ensure project alignment.
- Recommend improvements to electrical distribution systems.
Administrative Tasks:
- Assist with budgeting and work plan development.
- Provide mapping updates and technical drawings.
- Prepare reports and other documentation as requested by supervisors.
Operational Support:
- Participate in on-call duties and assist during storm events or emergencies.
- Provide back-up support for administrative staff as needed.
The position involves both office and fieldwork (approximately 50%/50%), requiring adaptability to various environments, including moderate to challenging terrain and temperature extremes. Field duties may include working near mechanical hazards, confined spaces, and exposure to dust and odors.
Expectations and Qualifications
- Education:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, forestry electrical/electronic technology, or GIS preferred. Surveying experience is advantageous. Other degrees may be considered.
- Experience:
Prior experience in electrical distribution system construction and project management is desirable. However, we are willing to train the right candidate.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency in reading maps, electrical diagrams, and blueprints.
- Familiarity with National Electric Code, Rural Utility Specifications, and related standards.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to lift 10-50 lbs. occasionally and walk up to one mile in varied terrain.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, as needed, and respond to emergencies as part of an on-call team.
Special Requirements:
- Valid commercial driver’s license.
- Competence in using surveying equipment, personal computers, and standard office tools.
