What are the responsibilities and job description for the Indirect Tax Senior position at Rea?

Our indirect tax department provides support to our clients with diagnosis of exposure, remedy and structural changes, and ongoing compliance and controversy support. Primarily, we work with U.S. sales and use tax taxes in multiple state jurisdictions. The Indirect Tax Senior will support our indirect tax senior manager in preparing and filing sales and use tax nationwide and reviewing the work of associate team members.
Responsibilities
- Sales tax compliance and SOS annual reports - client data manipulation, preparation and review of returns and deliverables
- Working with transactional tax software (Avalara, Vertex) implementation and ongoing client assistance after going live
- Assist with tax research, planning, consulting, remediation and compliance projects for internal clients and potential prospects
- Manage exemption certificate review and collection campaigns
- Preparation and review of state tax registrations
- Training of interns and staff on software, and indirect tax concepts
- Assist with sales/use taxability questions for internal and external clients
- Aid with notices and audits issued by state and local taxing jurisdictions
- Support nexus studies for sales tax, income tax, and other tax types
- Help with risk assessments quantifying exposure for sales tax, income tax, and other tax types
- Assist with voluntary disclosure projects
- B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited university preferred
- 2 years’ experience in multi-state sales and use tax compliance, preparation, and review
- Working towards CPA, or alternative credentials also accepted, particularly those in the state and local tax field
- Understanding of US indirect tax concepts
- Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, project management, communication skills
- Ability to provide exceptional client service, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning, display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment and exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and the timely completion of duties
- Ability to mentor and train staff and interns
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, pivot tables and formulas
- Ability to work effectively on a team
- Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment
