Clinical Therapist


Reports To: Director of Clinical Services

Status: Full Time

Location: Neenah and/or Appleton Office

Scheduled Time: 8:30-4:30 M-F, Requires some occasional evenings and weekends


ABOUT THE AGENCY Reach Counseling provides mental health care committed to the understanding of and response to emotional, sexual and physical abuse. Since 1976, Reach has worked to heal lives of abuse victims and hold perpetrators accountable through innovative programs in education and outreach, victim advocacy, outpatient therapy, counseling and sex offender treatment. Reach Counseling acknowledges that as an anti-violence agency, it is a part of our mission to reject all forms of violence and oppression.


POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Therapist provides direct mental health therapy to a variety of individuals who have been traumatized by sexual or other forms of abuse. This population may include children, adolescents, adults, cognitively and/or physically disabled and geriatric individuals. Performance of therapeutic services may involve individual, family or group therapy settings.

We recognize the significant need for therapists with lived experience and cultural competence in working with BIPOC communities. This position is part of our intentional strategy to expand access to trauma-informed therapy for survivors from historically marginalized communities, ensuring that all individuals receive care that is affirming, accessible, and reflective of their experiences. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


LICENSED THERAPY

  • Provide evaluations/problem identifications, diagnoses, crisis intervention and therapy to assigned clients (minimum 60% of time spent in contact with clients)
  • Develop treatment plans, monitor treatment progress and update client goals as is appropriate
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records, including admissions summaries, progress notes, treatment plans and discharge summaries
  • Client files are comprehensive and up to date quarterly
  • Submit a report of activities, goals and accomplishments to the clinic manager on a quarterly basis
  • When applicable, complete necessary paperwork regarding health insurance, medical assistance, etc. before authorization period elapses
  • Coordinate with the client's PCP and/or psychiatrist whenever possible.  Also, coordinate with outside community resources, programs and individuals when appropriate
  • Provide crisis counseling to clients in need
  • Advocate for clients involved with social services and/or the criminal justice system whenever necessary/appropriate
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, clinical collaboration meetings and 90 day case reviews
  • Attend continuing education necessary to meet state requirements for ongoing licensure  
  • Participate in fundraising events and professionally promote the agency within the community
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Master’s degree in counseling, social work or related field and WI State Licensure (including LPC-IT or APSW)
  • 2 years’ experience in an outpatient mental health clinic preferred
  • Knowledge of sexual abuse and domestic violence issues
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices preferred
  • Knowledge of group dynamics
  • Knowledge of family dynamics
  • Able to work with diverse populations
  • Able to assess crisis situations and intervene appropriately
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the DSM-V and diagnostic techniques
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and word processing

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, work on a computer and/or converse for prolonged periods of time 
  • The employee is required to walk, and to frequently operate office equipment 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
