POSITION SPECIFIC DETAILS:
Hours: 40 hours/weeks
Status: Full Year
Location: Based out of Great Beginnings Arbor Hills also covers Pequenos Traviesos partnership site (Spanish Required)
Pay: $21.58 an hour
SUMMARY:
The Center Based Family Specialist is responsible for developing a trusting relationship with HS/EHS parents as support and resource person. They will coordinate with the classroom team to implement the growing 0-5 curriculum and other activities that will enhance the parent / child relationship. This person reinforces the crucial role of parents as the primary educator of their children; ensures that all health and other identified needs of children and their families are met; assumes a lead role in implementing social service coordination by providing on-going comprehensive support and case management services to assigned families that promote positive family development / self-sufficiency and social competency; support the families in obtaining and maintaining child care subsidy; assumes a lead role in assuring parent involvement through opportunities that foster parent and family growth; and serves as a positive liaison to other community agencies, providing assistance and guidance to families.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum educational requirement of an Associates or Bachelors degree in Child Development, Early Childhood, Social Work or a related field
- A minimum of 3 years' experience working with low-income, multicultural families
- Bilingual Spanish Required
- Demonstrated experience and / or skills in family support and guidance including:
- Addressing mental health needs, community resource usage, case management and advocacy
- Community development
- Assessing family needs, setting goals and developing plans of action
- Facilitating support, educational and / or planning groups
- Promoting community development, organization or advocacy work on behalf of low-income families
- Effective approaches that support family self-sufficiency
- Experience working with high-risk families in a multicultural setting is a plus
- Experience in organizing and facilitating meetings and family gatherings Experience in identifying possible needs and referring families to specialized services in the areas of AODA, adult education / literacy, employability, parenting or mental health / outpatient counseling
- Successfully pass a physical examination that verifies the employee is free from communicable diseases and is physically able to perform required job responsibilities
- Have a valid Wisconsin Driver's License, motor vehicle and adequate liability insurance as required by agency policy and state liability regulations
- Other duties as assigned.
