Direct Support Professional – Com. Hab. DSP – Beacon, NY
Tuesday-Friday 3:30 PM until 6:30 PM
Occasional Weekends - hours will vary as needed
Starting salary $20/HR
A family located in Beacon, NY is looking for a competent Direct Support Professional to assist their 9-year-old with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a professional and compassionate manner at the individual's home and in the community. The ideal candidate will be patient, friendly, helpful, empathetic, responsible, dependable, have excellent communication skills, and have their own reliable transportation.
In this role you should be willing to routinely perform a variety of supports to the individual such as but not limited to the following:
- Helping individual(s) be more independent in the community
- Transporting individual(s) to community activities (mileage reimbursed)
- Assisting individual(s) and/or joining them at recreational activities (such as staying active via walking in the park / going to the mall /grocery shopping / other recreational activities)
- Providing social interaction & companionship
- Aiding with daily living skills when needed
- Aiding with meal prep and following diet guidelines
- Making sure to always follow the individuals' personalized care plan
- Reporting health status to individuals' proxy regularly
- Provide direct care and support to individual
- Implement support plans
- Document daily activities, progress, and any other pertinent information
- Ensure the safety and well-being of individual at all times
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individual when needed
Must Have:
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs, Direct Support Professional or similar
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel to client home or community settings
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to assist individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities
Helpful Skills:
- Knowledge of systems related to developmental disabilities
- Understanding of rights and person-centered care principles
- Proficiency in assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs)
