What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabricator-Diesel Locomotive position at Reading and Northern Railroad?
Reports to: Vice-President – Motive Power
Job Overview: The Diesel Locomotive Fabricator will work in conjunction with the Locomotive Mechanics to address and execute maintenance, troubleshooting and general repair to RBMN’s locomotive fleet. Main reporting location will be in the shop located in Nesquehoning, PA but will have occasional reporting days in Port Clinton, PA.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Able and available to work at multiple locations, mainly Nesquehoning and Port Clinton.
· Read and interpret schematics, blueprints and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks at hand.
· Utilize a variety of tools and equipment such as cutters, shapers, and measuring tools to shape materials.
· Perform MIG, Stick and other types of welds based on project needs.
· Use Oxygen & Acetylene torches Field install welds, metal sheeting, and other parts (air portions, couplers, pins, etc.).
· Select proper fillers for jobs based on previous experience or project instructions.
· De-bur and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture.
· Repair or replace components as necessary, ensuring the safe operation of the locomotive.
· Lubricate and clean parts to maintain proper function.
· Ability to repair and replace mechanical components as necessary.
· Ensure compliance with safety regulations, railroad rules, and standards set by the RBMN.
· Assist with general mechanical repairs as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Ability to work around loud machines and equipment.
· Proven experience as a Fabricator or similar role withing the manufacturing or transportation industry.
· Keen attention to detail and a result-driven approach.
· Ability to work alone or in mixed groups.
· Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions.
· Must be able to lift to, but not limited to, 80lbs.
· Ability to conduct work bending, standing, kneeling, climbing, lying down or sitting for long periods.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills to both superiors and subordinates.
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Finger dexterity, operation of motor vehicle, operation of equipment, manage multiple tasks/projects, close attention to detail and adapt to ever changing work environment.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Successfully complete an FRA-mandated background check, pre-employment drug screening and ongoing random drug screens.
· Possess a working mobile phone to utilize as needed.
· Operational vehicle to commute to/from work.
· Positive attitude.
· Open-mindedness to rapid change and discussion of various ways to execute projects.
· Exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, and heights.
