POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager and the direct guidance of a manufacturing coordinator, interprets engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams as required to construct, wire, start and troubleshoot industrial baking equipment. Works with engineering, and manufacturing management to ensure the functionality of the machine control through the assembly, start-up and debugging process. Uses electrical test equipment to certify proper voltages, frequencies, and current to ensure electrical components are functioning as designed in the application. Performs a variety of hand and machine-assisted function necessary to assemble and wire industrial bakery systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Interprets engineering assembly drawings and bills of materials to identity components to be assembled, their mating parts and their function within the machine.
- Performs a variety of machine and hand operations related to the assembly of industrial bakery machinery and systems including mating components, fitting parts,
- Use hand and power tools to deburr, polish, attach, align, tighten and/or adjust machine parts.
- Maintains quality by inspecting parts during the assembly operation using measuring devices, and gauges to ensure manufacturing consistency to required specifications.
- Aligns and fits mating parts to maintain the proper clearance or interference based on the application and the engineering specifications.
- Adjusts machine elements during assembly to maintain proper operating parameters and accuracy in accordance with engineering specifications.
- May be asked to assume duties of the assembly coordinator and provide technical leadership to assembly personnel assigned to the assembly projects.
- Cleans equipment and work area as necessary.
- Completes and maintains required production and quality control records and logs in accordance with Company production standards.
- Provides feedback to co-workers, supervisor, and Company management on a regular basis to ensure efficient and effective assembly operations.
- Participates and adheres to Company policies and programs on occupational health and safety, and operating procedures.
- Interprets engineering electrical designs, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings and bills of materials to identify control components to be assembled and installed on industrial baking equipment
- Follows engineering specifications and applies national and local electric shielding and wiring codes, and European Union CE Mark and Underwriters Laboratories certifications based on customers sight locations to select appropriate size wire, shielding, load protection and components as required by the design.
- Installs motors, motor controllers, solenoid valves, thermocouples, mechanical, impedance, magnetic, infrared, and photo sensors. Separates low voltage sensor signal wiring and control systems from high voltage, variable frequency power wiring.
- Assembles Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) processors and modules. Works with engineering to correct and document program logic problems and changes on uncomplicated machines and applications.
- Installs, tests and verifies PID, PD, Proportional and/or on/off control loop systems to control temperature, pressure, air flow, fluid levels, speed, position, etc.
- Under the direction of engineering or the master electrician, adjusts control systems, effects and documents changes during start-up and debugging to establish and maintain the operating parameters in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Utilizes electrician hand tool and a variety of hand power tools to assemble industrial bakery machinery control elements and systems.
- Maintains quality by inspecting components and confirming connections during the control system assembly operation using measuring devices, and gauges to ensure manufacturing consistency to required specifications.
- Applies Lock out Tag out procedures as required by the Company and the customer to ensure safe working area when working on the machine and the control systems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience, vocational technical school training that included mechanical assembly preferred. Usually three years of industrial and electrical assembly experience including two years of industrial bakery equipment assembly and/or maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering designs, and component and assembly drawings including fits, clearances, tolerances and weld symbols.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively and safely assemble four classes of the products (i.e. sheeting, extrusion, conveyors, ovens) produced and sold by Reading Bakery Systems, as certified by Company training standards and productivity and quality performance records.
- Demonstrated ability to operate hand machine tools to layout and drill and tap holes in assembly, and lifting devices necessary to do assembly operations.
- Demonstrated ability to ready, write, and speak English and read and interpret documents, instructions, engineering drawings, and procedure manuals.
- Demonstrated oral and written communications skills to effectively interface with all levels of Company management and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percent, and ratios.
- Demonstrated reasoning ability to solve practical problems.
- Demonstrated ability to measure products to less than 0.001 (1/1000) inch using specifically designed measuring gauges and precise measuring instruments.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR KNOWLEDGE
Certified forklift operators license
Must have personal hand tools; wrenches, socket sets, screw drivers, and other tools needed to assemble industrial bakery equipment.
Demonstrated ability to use company supplied tools; files, hammers, drills, lifts and other tools required to assemble industrial bakery equipment

Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
