POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager and the direct guidance of the Manufacturing Coordinator, interprets engineering drawings and operates metal cutting machinery to manufacture high precision component parts. Organizes component parts and subassemblies, works with engineering and manufacturing management to ensure the manufacturability and functionality of the components through the assembly process, and performs a variety of metal machining, hand and machine-assisted function necessary to manufacture and assemble industrial bakery systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Interprets engineering component drawings to determine the best machining processes to produce the component per the design.
- Set-up and operates saws, drill presses, lathes, surface grinders, key seaters, milling machines, and CNC machining centers, and CNC lathes to manufacture precision, close tolerance, high quality component parts for industrial baking machinery.
- Selects proper cutting tools for the job and applies cutting tool technologies to calculate and apply appropriate feeds and speeds for various materials, and apply proper cutting fluids to maintain dimensions and tolerances, and to generate the desired surface finish.
- Applies G & M Code machine tool programming language to edit or write simple CNC machine tools programs.
- Maintains quality by inspecting parts during the machining operations using precision measuring tools, such as micrometers, calibers, and gauges to ensure manufacturing consistency to required specifications.
- Interprets engineering assembly drawings and bills of materials to identify components to be assembled, their mating parts and their function within the machine
- Aligns and fits mating parts to maintain the proper clearance or interference based on the application and the engineering specifications. Adjusts machine elements during assembly to maintain proper operating parameters and accuracy in accordance with engineering specifications. Adjusts conveyor belts and chain drive
- Use hand and power tools to deburr, polish, attach, align, tighten and/or adjust machine parts. Performs a variety of machine and hand operations related to the assembly of industrial bakery machinery and systems including mating components, fitting parts, attaching components with various basic welding techniques, and verifying that parts move as required by the design.
- May be asked to assume duties of the machinist coordinator and provide technical leadership to machinists assigned to the manufacture components.
- Cleans equipment and work area as necessary.
- Completes and maintains required production and quality control records and logs in accordance with Company production standards.
- Provides feedback to co-workers, supervisor, and Company management on a regular basis to ensure efficient and effective assembly operations.
- Participates and adheres to Company policies and programs on occupational health and safety, and operating procedures.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience, vocational technical school training in metal machining and manufacturing preferred. Usually four years of precision metal machining experience including two years of CNC machine set-up, program editing and operation and one year industrial bakery equipment assembly experience. Journeyman machinist certification is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering designs, and component and assembly drawings including fits, clearances, tolerances and weld symbols.
- Demonstrated ability to operate all types of CNC machines, manual machine tools, and hand machine tools to produce component parts per the engineering design. Demonstrated ability to layout, drill and tap holes in assembly, and to use lifting devices necessary to do assembly operations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively and safely assemble two classes of the products (i.e. sheeting, extrusion, conveyors, ovens) produced and sold by Reading Bakery Systems, as certified by Company training standards and productivity and quality performance records
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English and read and interpret documents, instructions, engineering drawings, and procedure manuals.
- Demonstrated oral and written communications skills to effectively interface with all levels of Company management and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to operate scientific calculator to perform mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, trigonometry, geometry, percent, and ratios.
- Demonstrated reasoning ability to solve practical problems
- Demonstrated ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calibers and specifically designed measuring gauges to measure products to less than 0.001 (1/1000) inch.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR KNOWLEDGE
Certified forklift operator’s license
Must have personal measuring and hand tools; one inch micrometer, scales, wrenches, socket sets, screw drivers, and other tools needed to manufacture, measure, and assemble industrial bakery equipment
Demonstrated ability to use company supplied tools; files, hammers, drills, lifts and metal cutting tools required to manufacture and assemble industrial bakery equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear.
Use of hands to touch, feel, or handle and reach with hands and arms
Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Visual acuity required for close work, color differentiation, depth perception, and to adjust focus.
