Job Summary

As part of the in-house Marketing team and under the direction of the Marketing Manager and Director of IRD and in collaboration with the General Manager, the Marketing Communications Coordinator supports and executes marketing strategies, campaigns, and initiatives that advance the RMLD brand and goals. The Marketing Communications Coordinator serves as a key marketing team member to help forge community relationships, further the brand reputation of RMLD, and advance our mission to bring our customers reliable, low-cost, and increasingly non-carbon energy.

Illustrative Work Activities:

Essential work activities, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other duties may be assigned as determined by the Marketing Manager and Director of IRD.

  • Acts as a steward for the RMLD brand, supporting marketing efforts and championing consistent brand application across touch points
  • Coordinates and executes external communications as required; may include media relations, marketing collateral, campaigns and promotions, podcasts, and social media. May include composition, creation, and proofing of correspondence, media messages, articles, press releases, reports, announcements, presentations, digital content and other oral/written communications to meet RMLD’s outreach needs
  • Acts as contact point and coordinator for select community initiatives, such as contests and school programs. Keeps Marketing Manager informed of public concerns and requests related to these programs
  • Supports photo and video needs of RMLD, including organization and asset management
  • Implements RMLD targeted outreach programs, and other applicable promotions
  • Supports positive external relationships with businesses, and community-based organizations related to RMLD’s outreach efforts, such as Chambers of Commerce and local clubs. Coordinates collaborative efforts with these organizations. Assists Marketing Manager with yearly evaluation of support and partnership effectiveness
  • Coordinates special events and functions for external customers, legislators, and industry partners including visits, tours, presentations and meetings
  • Represents RMLD at community events, as needed
  • Acts as secondary marketing liaison to the media, public, and community contacts
  • Tracks, records, and reports earned media for RMLD
  • Under supervision of the Marketing Manager, executes on yearly social media strategy and supporting initiatives, including content creation, quarterly reporting, benchmarking, and analysis
  • Supports Marketing Manager in updating and maintaining the RMLD website
  • May be asked to attend RMLD Board of Commissioners and RMLD Citizens’ Advisory Board meetings in a supporting role “as needed” as determined by Marketing Manager and Director of IRD
  • Under the supervision of the Marketing Manager, may be asked to perform duties in support of overarching large-scale marketing projects including but not limited to market research and competitive analysis, as needed
  • Prepares marketing-related industry award and contest submissions entries on behalf of RMLD
  • Performs administrative tasks related to the marketing efforts of RMLD, including sourcing and oversight of external vendors like photographers, and printers, tracking of marketing programs, invoicing organization, and purchase orders

Minimum Qualifications And Essential Skills & Requirements

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field as determined by RMLD.

Excellent verbal and writing skills.

A positive, proactive, and flexible personality.

Attention To Detail, And Excellent Proofing Skills Required.

Basic knowledge of, or willingness to learn, technical aspects of utility operations to communicate key goals.

Strong Computer Skills Required.

Experience with web content management systems preferred.

Experience with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word), SharePoint. Constant Contact (or email platforms) and social media scheduling tools preferred.

Experience With Adobe Creative Suite Preferred.

Experience with coordinating a range of print, video and digital marketing programs preferred.

Marketing best practices knowledge preferred.

Ability to multitask, prioritize and complete assigned projects in a fast-paced environment.

A collaborative and curious outlook valued.

Utility Experience Is a Plus But Not Required.

Experience:

Preferred 3 years of experience in a community/public relations or marketing/marketing communications capacity, with emphasis on interpersonal skills. Experienced in supporting an active and agile marketing program desired.

Judgment and Initiative:

Ability to recognize the impact of marketing efforts on RMLD presence and perception. Understands their role in the greater organization as a collaborator and brand champion, Willing to offer ideas that may enhance the RMLD public image. Ability to work professionally with personnel from across the organization and external community partners.

Independent Action:

Takes instruction and direction well and completes assignments accordingly. Works well both independently and collaboratively within a high functioning and fast-paced team Ability to operate effectively and perform key duties in a timely manner under minimal supervision.

Manual Skills:

Strong typing and computer skills. Ability to operate computers, scanners, printers, photography and video equipment, and other related equipment and tools in the performance of this position.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform slight physical activity requiring lifting, carrying, setting up materials and equipment for public displays, seminars, training, and meetings. Ability to travel to local events.

Supervisory:

May be asked to provide minor functional supervision to other employees in same or closely related positions where scope of supervisory responsibility is limited to support with marketing initiatives. This position does not directly supervise RMLD staff.

License:

Class D License valid in MA.
