POSITION TITLE: Dispatcher
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for being the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency calls. In this position, you will need to be both professional and reliable as the position will be in charge of maintaining call logs, monitoring routes, transferring messages, and directing field units. To excel in this position, you will need to be able to multi-task in stressful conditions with little supervision. In addition to being an excellent communicator, the ideal candidate will also demonstrate superb organizational and interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls and document important information.
- Respond to any issues and follow-up by coordinating with the appropriate departments or field units.
- Operate and manage a multi-line telephone console system.
- Use the radio, phone or computer to direct crews and other field units to the appropriate sites.
- Prioritize and organize calls according to urgency.
- Supervise the route and status of field units to prioritize their daily schedule.
- Maintain and update call logs, call records and other important documentation.
- Coordinates with Sergeant dispatching of back-up unit.
- Monitor garages by camera system.
- Performs related administrative-clerical duties as required.
- Proactively address problems and suggest solutions
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent, preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated problem solving and judgment capabilities.
- Effective interpersonal, customer service and time management skills.
- Fast typing with experience in data entry.
- Strong knowledge of emergency processes and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check, physical and substance abuse screen. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifteen (15) pounds and may infrequently lift and/or move over twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
