Hours : Variable Hours

Position Goal : Performs journeyman level installation, service and repair to various systems including, but not limited to, electrical distribution, emergency lighting, telephone, street / parking lot lighting, HVAC, security, fire alarms and intercoms.

Position Rate : $27.69 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Other duties may be assigned.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following fundamental duties :

• Installs, alters, maintains and repairs electrical wiring and equipment, both high and low voltage.
• Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to insure compliance with codes.
• Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment, such as motors.
• Installs conduit and pull wires / cables.
• Provides preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
• Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment and fixtures using testing devices.
• Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and codes.
• Purchases parts and equipment, recommends annual supply requirements.
• Reads and interprets blueprints and schematic wiring diagrams.
• Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his / her designee. This job description does not constitute an exhaustive list of responsibilities and management may revise it at any time.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) plus satisfactory completion of an approved 4-year electrical apprenticeship. (Demonstrated aptitude or competence for performing work outlined under essential functions.)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

City of Reading Journeyman's License. Valid Pennsylvania Operator's License.
