Front End Engineer

At our core, ReadMe is a documentation platform, and we aim to be the best place on the internet for writing it! Join us to help ensure our editor is best in class. Our editor is unique because it’s proudly Markdown-first, while still giving the writer a preview of what the content will look like live. We want it to be incredibly powerful (supporting MDX and reusable content) while still feeling lightweight and relaxing to use.

ReadMe helps more than 5,000 leading startups and tech companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Webflow, Notion, or Nvidia you’ve used ReadMe!

✅ What You’ll Do Here

• Help develop and improve our Markdown editor
• Work on our core Markdown engine and upcoming MDX support
• Implement and build open-source MDX components for editors
• Understand and implement ways for companies to manage large amounts of changes to their docs

🌱 How You'll Grow Within One Month

• Get to know the Engineering team:
• Meet your onboarding buddy who will be your guide through the first few months.
• Join pair programming sessions with engineers across the full stack and frontend teams. You’ll pair on projects you’re working on, as well as areas of the codebase you’re new to!
• Start to get an understanding of the editor:
• Fix some bugs that crop up
• Implement an open-source MDX widget
• Make it easier for users to create MDX widgets
• Learn that we really do have an owl drawing for everything.
  
  

🪴 Within three months, you'll...

• Help roll out MDX to every customer
• Start working on bringing Suggested Edits to our new editor
• Rewrite our navigation/sidebar in React
  
  

🌳 Within six months, you'll...

• Explore new paradigms, such as inline commenting or multi-user editing
• Layer on AI tools to help give people feedback on their writing
• Have a portfolio of awesome things that you’ve shipped throughout the year
  
  

🛣️ What’s the hiring process like?

• We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about full-stack engineering, and help us get to know you better!
• If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with one of our Engineering Managers. They'll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.
• Next will be a second 30-minute phone interview with Laura, our VP of Engineering, where we’ll dive a bit more into your background.
• We’ll then do a technical assessment with a couple of ReadMe engineers.
• Finally, we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the people you’ll be interviewing with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.
• We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.
