POSITION OVERVIEW

An Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems to ensure optimal performance and water efficiency for landscapes, and other green spaces. The technician will work with both residential and commercial clients to troubleshoot problems, and maintain irrigation and low voltage lighting equipment, and at times install irrigation systems or additions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on irrigation systems, checking for leaks, clogs, and other malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, controllers, and other irrigation system components.
  • Perform system adjustments and calibration to ensure efficiency and proper water distribution.
  • Perform trenching and backfilling for installation of irrigation lines and systems.
  • Efficiently conduct spring start-up services including turning water on to the system, walking through the system to identify areas of concern, leaks, spray pattern adjustments, nozzle issues, and or coverage issues.
  • Efficiently and accurately perform winterization of systems to ensure water is properly removed from the system and backflow preventer to prevent freeze damage.
  • Diagnose issues related to water pressure, wiring, controllers, valves, and sprinkler heads.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to detect and fix problems efficiently.
  • Either posses or have the ability to confidently and accurately utilize electrical trouble shooting equipment such as a station master, voltage meter, wire toner, and valve tracker.
  • Understand basic electrical concepts as they relate to irrigation systems, and low voltage lighting systems.
  • Practice keeping it simple when trouble shooting always starting at step one to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Greet customers upon arrival to site, get approvals as needed to complete work while onsite, and check in with the customer upon completion of service.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing concerns and answering questions correctly about irrigation systems and maintenance schedules.
  • Advise customers on water conservation practices and the use of efficient irrigation methods.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed, repairs made, parts used, and any customer interactions.
  • Provide clients with maintenance schedules, and necessary service recommendations.
  • Follow safety protocols to prevent work-related accidents.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working conditions.

SKILLS AND QUAILIFACTIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate's degree or technical training in irrigation preferred).
  • Proven experience in irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation equipment, materials, and techniques.
  • Ability to operate and maintain tools and machinery related to irrigation work.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read as-built drawings or irrigation plans.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to work in tight spaces and perform physical labor including kneeling, bending, and digging for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Outdoor work at various residential, commercial, or agricultural locations.
  • Some evening or weekend work may be required based on customer needs.
