The kindergarten readiness camp summer experience is intended to be a partnership between Ready for School, our partner school districts, and parents. We realize that there is strength when we work together for the betterment of children and families.
Kindergarten Readiness Camp Teacher
Status: Temporary Employment
Compensation and Hours: $33 per hour, not to exceed 133 hours without prior approval
Site: Holland Public Schools, Jefferson Elementary School
Tentative Camp Dates: June 16th - July 31st (No camp the week of 4th of July)
Term: Kindergarten readiness camp is Mondays through Thursdays (closed the week of 4th of July). Teacher hours are approximately 8 am until 1 pm daily, which includes time to set up, clean up, and debrief after camp sessions. In addition to instructional hours, some of the hours will be spent in the following ways:
- Staff orientation and training (evening in May)
- Help deliver and return curriculum bins to and from your site
- Set up site classrooms
- Summer Kick-Off Event/ Open House
- Help gather and organize student data for progress notes given to Ready for School and parents
- Support Ready for School’s efforts to implement 1 field trip during camp hours
- Complete the kindergarten readiness camp report/staff survey
Job Description: The Teacher is tasked with preparing and leading the flow of their assigned classroom. They will ensure that all essential materials for the week are on site before the week begins, followed by laying out essential materials for the following day at the end of each session. Teachers are responsible for guiding their Teacher Assistants on what tasks they would like them to complete that week and the following day, as well as managing classroom behaviors. It is their responsibility to shift lessons to accommodate the individual needs of their students, ensuring that camp goals are being met individually and as a whole. It is the Teacher’s task to maintain a warm learning environment that is in line with Ready for School’s core values. Additionally, it is essential the Teacher models the following: positive behavior practices; flexibility; and honest, productive conversations with both students and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create a classroom culture that encourages group participation, curiosity, and discovery
- Foster a positive, safe and creative learning environment
- Develop and implement classroom curriculum, lesson plans, and objectives to address the academic needs of every student
- Supervise teacher assistant and volunteers with the support of your site lead
- Attend scheduled meetings and events outside the regular camp hours
- Communicate with students, parents, and staff
- Organize outdoor/indoor classrooms and learning resources
- Facilitate daily small and large group learning activities, including nature hikes and explorations
- Report any injury to your site lead in order to follow building protocol
- If big behaviors occur, collaborate with site lead and teacher assistants to positively address individual needs
- Reports to the Kindergarten Readiness Camp’s Site Lead
- Ensures the physical and emotional safety of children in KRC classroom
Required Education and Experience:
- CDA
- Experience teaching in an early childhood classroom
- Completion of MIRegistry Health and Safety Courses
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education
Qualifications:
- Valid and current teaching license from the State of Michigan
- Demonstrated support of Ready for School’s mission
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with families from diverse backgrounds
- Agility and creativity to shift plans in order to meet the greatest classroom needs
- Dedication to working collaboratively with fellow educators and families
- High level of enthusiasm for inspiring young learners to reach their full potential
- Enjoy being outside and helping children explore the world around them
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and commitment to students and their families
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Teaching experience
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate special events
- Early Childhood Endorsement, such as ZA or CDA (preferred)
- Provide employer with a negative TB test
- Current CPR/First Aid Certificate
- Spanish fluency (preferred)
All candidates must pass a criminal background check and fulfill other regulations in working with young children, such as CPR certification. Teachers are expected to work the duration of the summer program.
